Job overview

Music nurtures the joy of childhood, the sense of community and the spirit of participation which were the founding principles of our proudly non-selective school when it opened in 2003. That ethos is as vibrant today, as the school continues its expansion.

Alongside the joy music brings to us all, is a relentless vision of excellence, played out in concerts, recitals and the myriad school productions which happen each year. NHP is rightly celebrated in the prep school world as a class leader in Music.

We are looking for an inspiring and innovative teacher, a person of energy and flair, collaborative in style and outlook, to be our new Head of Music and take the school through the next phase of expansion in  state of the art premises in our new building.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Assistant Head of Music, and our powerful team of peripatetic teachers who are the backbone of the school’s musical output.

They will lead the teaching of classroom Music across the school, Reception to Year 8, and build on the school’s reputation for excellence in performance. They will play an integral part in school Drama: NHP productions are a marriage of Music and Drama.

Whilst building on the outstanding legacy of previous Heads of Music, they will have the chance to establish their own vision for Music in the expanding school. The candidate will have a chance to explore their ideas at interview.

This position might appeal, not only to an experienced teacher, but also to someone who is fairly newly qualified and has the passion and vision to ensure that music remains central to the ethos of the school.

A responsibility allowance will be included as part of the remuneration package.

Please tick the ‘Apply’ button to submit your application form.

The closing date for completed applications is 9am on 29th April 2019.  Interview days will be held the week    commencing   6th May 2019.

Candidates invited for interview can expect to teach an observed lesson and/or lead an assembly, have a guided tour of the school, meet members of the Music Department and have an interview with the Head and another member of the Senior Management Team.

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the DBS.
