We are seeking to appoint a dynamic and creative Head of Music to join the performing arts team at Kettering Science Academy. The music department is at the beginning of a very exciting journey of development and expansion. We are very blessed with physical resources: As well as a large collection of orchestral and pop instruments, we have a class set of keyboards, djembe drums and ukuleles, and also dedicated music technology suite. Our two main classrooms are varied and suitable for different activities; both within the core curriculum and for extracurricular opportunities. Our facilities are complimented by 4 purpose-built practice room spaces, each with instruments.  We have a fully equipped recording studio, specifically designed with recording opportunities in mind, as well as a trust appointed technician to support with technical elements within performing arts.

Our students are enthusiastic, creative and always keen to participate in enrichment activities. Currently we support students in their pursuit of Music through a mixed music club (offering keyboard, choir and ukulele opportunities), a beginners and intermediate guitar club. Our Music students have regularly both organised and performed in concert opportunities as part of their studies and continue to do this in new and exciting ways in the current climate. We are looking to expand our current provision of extra-curricular opportunities for our students and develop the subject’s visibility across the Academy.

The successful candidate will

· Be able to lead, manage and develop the curriculum of Music across the Academy.

· Be able to set aims and objectives for the subject in consultation with the rest of the performing arts team and  senior leaders.

· Be a highly motivated individual and an enthusiastic teacher with the desire to inspire students to achieve, succeed and exceed in their learning of Music.

· Have experience leading music across Key Stage 3 and KS4 Music GCSE or vocational qualifications.

. Experience teaching at Key Stage 5 would be advantageous although not essential, however the ability to develop the curriculum to allow our students the ability to progress onto level 3 qualifications would be desirable.

· Be able to run and develop a programme of enrichment activities in conjunction with other performing arts staff.

· Organise regular opportunities for students both within the academy and in our local community.

· Coordinate the weekly peripatetic lessons in cooperation with Northamptonshire Music and Performing Arts Trust.
