YOUR PROFILE

Are you an ambitious, strategic thinker with a passion for working in the outdoors with young people? Do you have extensive personal mountaineering experience and the ability to lead a team? Are you proficient in outdoor sports, such as skiing and climbing? --If so, you could be the ideal candidate to join our school as our Head of Outdoor Education and Expeditions.

You will have the vision and determination to develop and execute our outdoor education and expeditions programs, ensuring they are safe, stimulating, and motivating for our students.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop and implement a strategic plan for the outdoor education department and expeditions, including vision, mission, and goals. Inspire confidence and belief in the student body to engage in outdoor and adventure experiences

• Plan and execute outdoor expeditions, trips, and activities that provide students with opportunities for personal growth, skill development, and team building

• Work closely with the sports department to coordinate “crossover sports” such as biking, climbing, skiing, and school challenges

• Collaborate with the Director of Boarding to coordinate weekend activities that support student awards and recognition

• Manage the detailed planning of the outdoor education department, including budget, staffing, and equipment needs

• Communicate effectively with students, parents, and other stakeholders to promote the benefits of outdoor education and expeditions


EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelors degree in outdoor education, adventure education, or a related field. Or a proven career history of equivalence in the outdoor industry

• An individual with a broad base of outdoor education skills and qualifications to match in relevant activities


EXPERIENCE

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in outdoor education and expeditions, with a track record of successfully leading programs.

• Personal mountaineering experience and skiing with a high level of proficiency in two or more other outdoor sports supported by relevent qualifications

• Experience leading and managing a team of staff members

• Experience of high mountain environments around 6000m


PERSON SPECIFICATION

• English native-level speaker or high level of English comprehension. Good level of French is helpful but not essential

• Knowledge of private schools is an asset

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Strong organizational, leadership, and management skills

• A sense of humor and a passion for using outdoor experiences to contribute to the holistic education of students

• Commitment to safety, risk management, and environmental sustainability.

• Ability to work flexible hours and travel as needed
