Job Description

Job purpose: 

  • To lead and inspire staff and pupils by maintaining and further developing the Co-curricular Outdoor Pursuits provision.
  • Main duties and responsibilities
  • Design, coordinate and manage delivery of Giggleswick Certificate and Saturday Games OP Programmes. Manage Kayaking, MTB and climbing activities;
  • DofE Award Manager –Liaise OP and CCF expeditions;
  • Co-ordinate DofE within the school;
  • Organisation and delivery of the co-curricular OP programme;
  • Oversee AALS and DofE Licences, MTUK and NNAS Provider;
  • Manage Indoor Climbing Wall and implement NICAS.
  • General responsibilities

Teaching duties

  • Delivery of Giggleswick Certificate programme;
  • Saturday afternoon OP Instructor;
  • Deliver training and assessment in NGB awards such as NNAS awards, British Canoeing; Royal Yachting association and Mountain training;
  • Coordinate and deliver DofE training and Expedition programmes.

Whole School duties

  • Oversee Outdoor skills roadmap from age 3-18;
  • DofE Award Manager;
  • Organise and lead Biennial Whole School Gaggle (walk);
  • Organise and lead Biennial Gigg2Gigg 3Peaks Challenge;
  • CPD for OP staff;
  • Management and regular update of OP stores.

Marketing

  • Organise and deliver GJS Prep-school taster weekend/afternoons;
  • Organise and deliver OP activities on Junior School Open afternoons;
  • Organise and deliver OP activities on Year 7 Transition day.

Commercial activities

  • To look at commercial revenue opportunities within the school.
  • Take part and lead in OP based Summer School courses.

Health and safety 

  • Oversee implementation and renewal of AALS licence;
  • Maintain well stocked and inventory of stores logging 6 monthly safety checks;
  • Organisation, coordination and delivery of staff CPD;
  • Manage Indoor climbing Wall.

Other duties

  • Establish and maintain links with Universities and other Outdoor providers;
  • Staying up to date with best practice within the Outdoor industry.

Working hours/week

This is a 0.5 role based on a 6-day School week, to be worked flexibly to fit with the requirements of the School.

Salary

The successful candidate will be placed on the appropriate point of the School's salary scale depending on the qualifications and experience of the applicant. Lunch is provided during term time.
