Head of PE. 

Tes is currently supporting a friendly and supportive secondary academy, based in Portsmouth. The school is looking to add a Head of PE to their progressive and supportive Sports Department ideally starting in April 2022.

The role will include managing the delivery of PE at KS3 and GCSE across year groups 7 to 11. You will lead your department to enhance provision and will get the chance to lead on exciting project work throughout the year. Project work may include revising schemes of work and ensuring the curriculum is engaging to all learners alongside projects that support student attainment, well-being and engagement within the wider school. However, as Head of Department, you will have full autonomy to ensure your department meets targets and exceeds the needs of our learners. You will lead by example, supporting and empowering your department’s teachers, staff and pupils to achieve to the best of their ability. The Head of Department will also line manage the PE department, supporting the SLT link and Headteacher to ensure the department achieves its maximum potential. 

"The academy is growing and there are some very exciting projects taking place such as our new building extension that completed in September 2020. The £4.1million project will transform the academy, Portsmouth, increasing the number of pupil places by 300 students, an eventual total increase in student capacity to 900. As well as our pupils, facilities, and opportunities, we want our staff to grow too. We recognise that teaching can be a challenging profession. That’s why we give our staff ample periods for planning, preparation and marking and ensure most meetings take place during our working day to protect our valuable free time, and receive regular rewards and recognition from the Principal for our effort and enthusiasm. As Head of Department, you will lead, develop and manage the effective delivery of an outstanding curriculum, which enables the highest level of student progress and attainment. You will lead the professional community of PE teachers and promote outstanding teaching and learning and a strong school culture within a nurturing and rigorous environment."

The school expects:

• A UK teaching qualification such as PGCE/PGDE, SCITT, BEd or MEd with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

• a relevant Physical Education Degree or a related subject

• experience in delivering PE up to GCSE pushing and engaging learners to progress within the subject

• experience managing a department: specifically people and financial management

• a love and passion for education.
