Wellington College China is a partner of Welling  ton College in England.  It has three schools in Shanghai, all close to each other, not far from the heart of this exciting, international city.   Our schools provide an outstanding education for 2,150 local and international children aged between 2 and 18 years old.

Wellington College International Shanghai opened in August 2014 as Wellington’s se  cond partnership school in China, and has rapidly developed a reputation as the premier international school in the city.   It currently has 1,280 pupils and continues to grow by over 150 pupils per year. The College is divided into three schools, with a Senior School (years 9 to 13) and Prep School (years 1 to 8) on the main campus and Early Years (nursery and reception) in a new purpose-built centre nearby.   The College curriculum combines our focus on the Wellington values with the best of English and international curriculums.  The youngest children in the nursery and reception classes follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum.   From year 1, the English National Curriculum provides the core of the curriculum in maths and literacy, with other lessons following the International Primary Curriculum.   From year 6 up, all children follow a school-devised curriculum, based on the English National Curriculum and taught by subject specialists to prepare for the study of IGCSE subjects in years 10 and 11.  Pupils in years 12 and 13 follow the prestigious IB Diploma Programme.

Wellington College International Shanghai aims to be the best international school   in China and to be great place for talented professionals to develop their careers. Our academic results to date have been outstanding, our IB students average above 36 points in 2018 and 2019, placing Wellington comfortably alongside the best international IB schools.    Most of our IGCSE pupils gain eight or more A*-A grades, with A* being by far the most common grade.

Success in public examinations is important and we celebrate it. However, at Wellington College, excellent exam results and great university destinations, in the UK and worldwide, are only part of the picture. We want our pupils to be the very best people that they can be: to be kind, to have integrity in their actions, to take responsibility when necessary, to have respect for their environment, for others and themselves, and finally to show courage when needed. The Wellington values frame the way we think about what it is be a Wellingtonian, including the ways we work and what we hope to become.

Huili School Shanghai is Wellington’s bilingual school that opened in August 2018 with 276 Chinese pupils from grade 1 to grade 6 (UK equivalent to Year 2 to 7).  It now in its second year and pupil numbers have doubled to 564, and the oldest children have progressed to grade 7.   The school will continue to grow by over 200 children a year and we will open our High School in August 2021.

Huili School combines Wellington’s holistic, British approach to educating the whole child, with the enduring strengths of the Chinese curriculum and focus on learning.  We talk about giving our pupils the best of both worlds.  Half our lessons are in English and half in Chinese.  Half our teachers are English-speakers and half are Chinese.  It is our desire to imbue every pupil with our five core values: courage, integrity, respect, kindness and responsibility. We encourage and expect our Chinese pupils to develop the Wellington identity: to be inspired, intellectual, independent, individual and inclusive.

Huili Nursery Shanghai opened in 2016 to provide early years education for local and international children.  It combines the very best of the British approach to education, as exemplified by Wellington College, with the strengths of Chinese education. We want our pupils to progress to Huili School Shanghai and to develop a love of learning, a pride in their Chinese culture and the skills and talents to succeed in a global future.  In August 2018, we moved into a new, purpose-built, impressive school campus, which is easily accessible to most of Shanghai.

We want our Huili and Wellington schools to be the most forward-thinking and innovative schools in Shanghai.  In this great city, we want our children to become the very best versions of themselves.

As the Wellington group continues to expand in Shanghai due to our rapidly growing reputations and continuing high demand, we are looking to recruit an exciting and dynamic teacher of  Head of Performance music  to join our dedicated and highly professional team of colleagues at Wellington College International  Shanghai.   In addition to high quality professional development and job satisfaction, staff receive a very competitive salary and an excellent accommodation and wellbeing package.  The welcome we provide for teachers new to China, including induction programmes in the UK and China, is second to none.

We are looking for someone who will drive the development of musical performance across the school. They will work together with the director of arts to establish Wellington as a leading school for music, in the region and globally. The candidate will be a good honours graduate and an experienced musician. They will be able to enthuse, motivate and inspire young people and colleagues.   This is a new post and the start date can be negotiated to suit the availability of selected candidate, and it could be anytime between January and August.
