La Mare de Carteret High School is seeking to appoint as soon as possible an experienced, dynamic and well-qualified, specialist graduate teacher with the experience to lead and take responsibility for the work of the Performing Arts Department, and to make a full contribution to the ethos, identity and life of the school and to the Guernsey Federation of Secondary Schools.

The three island 11-16 High Schools, the Guernsey Grammar School & Sixth Form Centre (11-18), and St Anne’s School in Alderney work in a federated model of partnership working led by the Director of Education.

The person appointed will be employed by the States of Guernsey and will be based at La Mare de Carteret High School. They will be required to maximise opportunities for collaborative working, teaching and learning across key stages and shared professional development across schools. There is an expectation that they will engage in cross-school initiatives which may require working on more than one site to meet the needs of the Education Service.

The post holder will be required to teach throughout Key Stages 3 & 4 and lead the performing arts area. You will be able to excite and challenge young people and will be able to demonstrate excellence in teaching and learning and will be expected to contribute to school improvement. 

You are also expected to have excellent communication and management skills, a strong commitment to team work and the ability to maintain productive relationships with staff and young people. We are looking for someone who is passionate about raising learners’ individual achievements and you will have a proven track record in equipping learners to make excellent progress, and the determination to make a difference to the lives of young people.

The person appointed will have excellent communication skills and the ability to maintain productive relationships with staff and a commitment to achieving high standards of teaching and learning. They will need to demonstrate strong qualities of leadership, management and administration, to have a thorough knowledge of current developments in the teaching of the performing arts (in particular Music and Drama) Music throughout the 11-16 age range, to be committed to high standards of achievement and contribute to the teaching Performing Arts (Music and Drama) throughout the school including at School events and Extra Curricular activities. 

Experience in, or strength in, Performing Arts and multimedia technologies would be an advantage. The successful candidate will have the ability to model good practice and will be expected to make a full contribution to the life of the school, particularly at middle manager level and should also be able to commit to the programme of extra-curricular events which takes place during the school year.

The Bailiwick of Guernsey is made up of four islands: Guernsey, Herm, Sark and Alderney.

Education in Guernsey comprises of 11 primary schools, four secondary schools, and three special schools which offer education to the Island’s young people who require additional support.

There is a primary and secondary school in Alderney (St Anne’s) and a primary school in Herm, which currently has 10 pupils.
