Job overview
We are seeking a Head of Physics to ensure outstanding examination outcomes in the curriculum within the Physics department KS4; the new post-holder will also work with our established and experienced science team to ensure that comprehensive wider learning offer is in place for Physics students. William Perkin, an Ofsted Outstanding school, is one of four Twyford Trust schools, and the new post-holder will be joining us at a time of growth; the organisation therefore offers exciting development opportunities and good promotion prospects for motivated and energetic teachers who support the ethos of the Trust. Our Sixth Form opens in September 2018 - those with an interest in teaching A Level are encouraged to apply.
The science department, comprising 15 teaching staff and 2 technicians, is led by the Head of Science and includes a Deputy Head, Heads of Biology and Chemistry, and key stage co-ordinators.
William Perkin has an innovative curriculum model – core subjects including science are taught in the morning in 50-minute periods, and science is studied every day by every student. These lessons cover the academic core, and the style of learning is formally focussed on the acquisition of core content and academic disciplines.
The Practical and Creative subject options, known as the Electives, take place in the afternoon. The elective subject areas are Art, Music, Sport, Creative Technologies and the Application of Science. Once a week students have a 100-minute Applied Science session in which they explore the subject in a real world context. The Applied Science electives have been designed to encourage students to understand the practical application of Science and to develop their ability to think both critically and creatively. Each unit is constructed around a specific context, problem or creative challenge, and the content is designed to reinforce and extend classroom learning. The style of the elective programme is to encourage experimentation, exploration and research, and students use their individual initiative as well working effectively as part of a team to formulate accurate, measurable responses and solutions to the problems they encounter. The goal is for students to gain a genuine sense of the application of the science they study, as well as consolidate their learning in the core syllabus.

The Twyford Church of England Academies Trust (TCEAT) is a compact CoE MAT which comprises four schools in the London Borough of Ealing. The Trust was established in October 2011 to enable an existing School, Twyford CE High School, to build on its successes and look outward to the large number of parents who were eager to become part of its community. Over a 10 year period it launched three new schools Ealing Fields, William Perkin and Ada Lovelace all of which have achieved progress outcomes ranking them in the top 1% of schools nationally, making TCEAT the highest attaining Trust in the UK. TCEAT aims to deliver outstanding education in a comprehensive school setting and embraces the Twyford School motto ‘Life in all its fullness’, encouraging students to use their individual gifts wisely and well.
