Fortes Education presents an exciting opportunity to join us as Head of Positive Education & Wellbeing for EYFS & Primary for its group of schools. 

The Head of Positive Education and Wellbeing will be inspired at all times by the values of Fortes Education and will exhibit a commitment to teamwork. As the leader of the Student Wellbeing and Positive Education Team, the Head of Positive Education and Wellbeing has delegated responsibility for the development, operation and growth of wellbeing and Fortes Education’s Positive Education framework, based on the science of positive psychology. 

The Head of Positive Education and Wellbeing will work closely with a team of professional educators and support and operational staff in the implementation of policies and practices relating to the wellbeing and human flourishing of the School’s various communities (students, staff, parents, etc), including the pastoral care and behavioural development of students.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Positive Education & Wellbeing

The role encompasses the following key areas:

• Lead the development of Positive Education and Leadership that is specific to the needs and essential character of Fortes Education, and its students;  

• Work in close association with the Director of Positive Education & Wellbeing and the Senior Leaders of the School in the development of Positive Education and Leadership; 

• Develop an understanding and promote awareness of staff well-being in the construct of positive education for all; 

• Cultivate a clear understanding of 21st Century Learning Skills and mechanisms for development;

• Design, co-ordinate, direct and deliver Positive Education modules for both staff development and student learning; 

• Develop specific learning objectives and outcomes across a range of positive psychology-related topic areas. 

• Develop and distribute appropriate Positive Education resources. 

• Mentor and take an active role in the various student committees, especially the wellbeing portfolio and student leadership teams. 

• Manage the evaluation of programs

• Support the development and implementation of student transition programs. 

• Advise the teachers in the application of student wellbeing practices and principles. 

• Develop a system of monitoring students ‘at risk’.

• Keep abreast of the latest research and developments in educational psychology that provide and inform educational practice and positive education; 

• Liaise and consult with parents, staff and students concerning student wellbeing needs.

• Create strong links between the Positive Education and National Curriculum to ensure complementary programs and practices. 

• Develops strong links with wellbeing services in order to appropriately support the wellbeing program.

Leadership

• Play a lead role in maintaining and developing the School’s ethos, philosophy, values and standards among students, parents and staff; 

• Set and maintain standards of excellence in the outcomes applied to students of Fortes Education by all staff within the Schools; 

• Foster a positive morale and a sense of teamwork amongst all staff across phases at Fortes Schools; 

• Identify and advocate for changes and strategies to improve the ethos and educational delivery to improve student outcomes within the School; 

• Develop and implement a model of Student Leadership that respects the unique characteristics of the School’s;

• Advocate, promote and communicate the benefits of Positive Education within the local and broader community; 

• Support the Senior Leadership team in the development and coaching of staff in the School’s Model of Positive Education and Leadership; 

• Promote and assist the development of the School’s as a Professional Learning Community;

• Promote and encourage the professional development of all staff

Staff Wellness

• Lead, promote and be responsible for the Staff Wellness Committee; 

• Aid and support the well-being of staff as requested by the Principal or the Senior Leadership team; 

Administration and Compliance 

• Comply with all School policies and procedures as outlined in the Staff Handbook and Policies including organisational and risk management processes as required; 

• Represent Fortes Education at external events and occasions as deemed appropriate by the Director of Positive Education &/or the Principal.

This position will report to the Director of Positive Education.
