The Head of Cheltenham College Preparatory School  invites applications for the post of Head of Pre-Prep starting in September 2021.

Reporting directly to the Head of Cheltenham College Preparatory School and sitting on The Prep’s Senior Leadership Team, you will play a leading role in the strategic direction of the whole of The Prep.

The Head of Pre-Prep is responsible for leading and monitoring the standards of teaching, learning, pupil assessment and pastoral care in the department and for the day-to-day management of staff.

There is a strong sense of community at The Prep and the appointed candidate will relish the opportunity to not only lead, but form part of a close-knit, warm and welcoming team, enjoying the achievements of the pupils and making a strong, overall contribution to the success of the school.

The successful candidate will take a genuine and detailed overview of all pupils’ academic and pastoral progress and support needs, recognising the children’s individual strengths and challenges, and adapting their approach to get the best from each individual.

The successful candidate will be expected to play a leading role in the marketing of the Pre-Prep and Nursery and to assist in the admissions process.

There is an incredibly exciting programme of capital investment already in place for the next two years which includes the complete refurbishment of the current Pre-Prep and the building of a brand new woodland nursery.

In order to be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following skills and attributes:

  • Approachable, flexible and have a sense of fun/humour.
  • A genuine passion for ensuring that every child, regardless of their ability, is being the best they can be
  • Strong organisation capabilities with the ability to juggle tasks, prioritise workloads and delegate when needed.
  • Excellent leadership skills as the postholder will be responsible for a team of approximately 25 teachers and teaching assistants.
  • Responsible, caring and supportive with the ability to be fair and open-minded, maintaining discipline and order when necessary as well as providing plenty of encouragement and rewards.
  • A skilled and intuitive communicator with the ability to deal effectively with colleagues at all levels, parents and external agencies.
  • Extensive knowledge of the needs of young children.
