Job overview

The Dragon seeks to appoint an enthusiastic musician, teacher and educator to lead and deliver classroom music lessons across the Pre-Prep (Reception – Year 3) age range, who will be willing to make a wide contribution to the life of this busy, exciting and successful school.  The position would suit an enthusiastic teacher with experience of teaching children of the Prep and Pre-Prep age.  The applicant must have classroom teaching experience and relevant qualifications.

Music is a key component of life for musicians and non-musicians and is embedded into every child’s education at the Dragon. The collective aim of the Department is to fire enthusiasm of the musically talented and offer opportunities for all through music.

The Department consists of over fifty staff who, inspire and manage the children with one common goal. We aim to provide an enjoyable and engaging musical experience for everyone through a broad curriculum, instrumental lessons, ensembles programme and extra-curricular activities. Performance is at the heart of the music programme where all the children are offered opportunities both in and out of the classroom to give a variety of performances from instrumental and choral to compositions and arrangements. We look to develop potential in all areas of the subject and the school has an outstanding provision for musical ensembles.

Dragon School is one of Britain’s leading preparatory schools, offering a first-class day and boarding education for girls and boys aged 4-13 years. Located in the heart  of the city of Oxford, the Dragon provides a distinctive  educational experience that not only celebrates childhood  and the joy of learning, but also prepares young people  with the skills to thrive in a rapidly changing world and  continue to ‘Reach for the Sun’ (Arduus ad Solem). Academic excellence for all sits at the heart of a Dragon education. As a school, the Dragon is constantly  seeking to innovate, developing the curriculum both  in and out of the classroom. Dragon QUEST, the Saturday enrichment programme, is a unique opportunity to stretch pupils further, giving children  the freedom to learn new and unfamiliar skills, from beekeeping to exploring anthropology; we are only limited by our imaginations. Equally, ‘giving back’ is integral to being a grounded Dragon.
