Job overview

Head of Primary - Craighouse School

Craighouse School is a co-educational bilingual school in Chile offering an outstanding education to some 2,000 pupils aged 3 to 18. The School is a full IB continuum school and a founding member of the Association of British School of Chile (ABSCH) as well as a founding member of the Latin American Head’s Conference (LAHC). The School seeks to identify, facilitate and develop each pupil’s potential through a vibrant curriculum that combines the national curriculum with the three IB programmes: Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP).

The Head and Board of Governors of Craighouse now seek an exceptional Head of Primary to provide inspirational leadership to the Primary Section, comprising of around 900 pupils. This is a rare and exciting opportunity for an outstanding educational leader to join one of South America’s most prestigious bilingual schools. The School warmly welcomes applicants from a wide range of backgrounds, however applications are particularly encouraged from candidates with significant senior leadership experience within primary international education. As part of a collaborative Senior Management Team, the Head of Primary will inspire in both pupils and staff a love of learning and strive for the School to be a beacon of excellence for modern pedagogical practice. They must be a team player, child-centric, and comfortable leading a large and diverse team. Some knowledge of Spanish is desirable but not essential.

Craighouse is located in the north of Santiago, Chile’s capital city. Santiago boasts a host of historical, artistic and culinary activities and is also perfectly positioned to enjoy the rest of Chile and South America. From Santiago both mountains and beach are easily accessible in roughly one hour, and trips further afield could feature the deserts in the north or the glaciers of Patagonia in the south. Chile is the safest country in Latin America, and it is possible to enjoy a very high quality of life in Santiago, with excellent healthcare, transportation links and other services. Chileans are extremely welcoming and the Head of Primary will find themselves quickly at home in this community.

The preferred starting date for this position is February 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter.
