Job overview

Head of Primary Phase

Full time, Permanent

September 2018

The Haberdashers’ Aske’s Federation is a flourishing family of three all-through 3-18 academies, a primary Free School and a Teaching School.  Our reputation is built upon a tradition of high standards and academic excellence. We are committed to unlocking the potential of every pupil at every stage in their education.

The primary phase in Crayford Academy is located across two sites, our North and South campuses. All primary children have an automatic right of entry to the highly successful secondary phase. The North Campus in Slade Green is a two form entry school, whereas the South Campus, at Crayford, is a single form entry school. This year we plan to expand our leadership structure in line with other primary schools within our Federation and have Primary Headteachers on both campuses, rather than one Headteacher overseeing the whole primary phase.

Significantly, we plan to disaggregate the primary schools from the secondary phase to ensure that our Primary Headteachers are afforded greater autonomy within the Crayford cluster. You will have responsibility for managing the finances of your school, staffing, accountability for pupil outcomes and securing a favourable inspection judgement.

Our focus is firmly set on pupils and their outcomes and maximizing every possibility that exists for children to do well. By making the quality of leadership at all levels a priority, we will ensure all schools within the Crayford cluster are high performing schools, by which we mean functioning within the top 25% of schools nationally.

With such a large proportion of our secondary intake coming from our primary phase, transition work is a priority for the Primary Head teacher. This means making sure that the number of children who are secondary-ready is at least in line with national average. We place a strong emphasis on the importance of knowledge in literacy and numeracy, whilst developing the character of pupils. Primary teaching staff are dynamic and able, and seek strong guidance to deliver the outcomes we expect from our pupils.

We are looking for a talented individual who shares the school’s vision to provide an exceptional comprehensive education. You will need to demonstrate commitment to your own education and be driven and ambitious with strong leadership skills

If you are appropriately qualified, have relevant experience either as an existing primary headteacher or experienced deputy head, and are ready to accept the challenge of this demanding job, we look forward to receiving your application.
