We are a department that is proud of its success so far and we seek to recruit a new team member who will have a crucial role in shaping the future of Religious Education at the College.

We are seeking to appoint an ambitious and inspiring outstanding classroom practitioner interested in joining our successful Department of Sociology, Psychology and Philosophy & Ethics as the Head of Religious Education to commence in September 2017. The post holder will work closely with the Head of Sociology, Psychology and Philosophy & Ethics to provide professional leadership and management for Religious Education across the school, ensuring the department delivers high quality teaching, effectively using the resources available and aiming to raise standards of learning and achievement for all our students. The successful candidate will be able to teach Religious Education at all Key Stages with a track record of supporting academic success. We would welcome applications from those willing to teach Sociology or Psychology at either GCSE or A Level.

Sir Harry Smith Community College is an 11-18 Academy, proud of its traditional values and innovative approaches to Teaching and Learning and its standards of discipline and respect. The College serves the market town of Whittlesey, seven miles outside of Peterborough in Cambridgeshire.

In the 2016 summer examinations students achieved the following results: 78% A* - C in English and 66% A* - C in Maths. Science results were 72% A*- C. Of these results, 82% of students made expected progress in English and 74% of students made expected progress in Maths. In English, 48% of students made more than expected progress and in Maths it was 33%.

In November 2014, Ofsted graded Sir Harry Smith as a “Good school where students are proud of their school and behave with respect and consideration towards each other”. We pride ourselves on our sense of community and Ofsted recognised that the relationships between staff and students were positive.

Sir Harry Smith Community College is a mixed academy secondary school and Sixth Form for students aged 11-18.

The school was opened in 1953 on the site of Whittlesey Workhouse and is named after the Army General Sir Harry Smith who was born nearby.  The school converted to academy status in 2012 and is part of the Aspire Learning Trust along with local primary schools, Park Lane and New Road.
