Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, suitably qualified and inspirational teacher to join our thriving and vibrant prep school which enjoys a strong family ethos and first rate reputation.  The vacancy is a full time, permanent post to commence Winter Term 2021.

The successful candidate will be an outstanding classroom practitioner.  Registered with GTC Scotland (or able to be registered*), she or he will have high expectations of pupils, excellent interpersonal and team-working skills, strong IT skills and will have the ability and willingness to contribute to the extensive extra-curricular life of our school.  As Head of Rugby, she or he will also be able to instil a love of Rugby in his or her pupils and will be an ambassador for the sport throughout the school community to both girls and boys.

We have a demonstrable track record of coaching successful squads up to the age of 13 and the successful candidate will be prepared to support the school’s sporting ethos of long term athlete development and a lifelong love of sports participation.  There will also be a requirement to coach other sports, in season, as appropriate.  Additional training and support will be given as required.

At Craigclowan we are passionate about childhood.  We are a thriving, co-educational independent day school with a current role of 220 boys and girls aged three to thirteen.  We are fortunate to be ideally located in a prominent and well-connected setting to the south of the Fair City of Perth overlooking this beautiful city, the River Tay and the incredible countryside beyond.  As one of the largest preparatory schools in Scotland, we have excellent specialist teaching facilities for sport, music and the arts and each academic curriculum area.  We enjoy an excellent academic record and a busy extra-curricular programme.  However, it is our committed and talented staff who really make the difference; the excellent relationship between pupils and specialist staff and the ability of the staff to draw out the very best from the children is fundamental to what we do.  We aim to provide a broad education and a strong academic stimulus with opportunities for each pupil to explore, make mistakes, learn and grow, both inside and outside of the classroom.

The job description, application form and information about the school can be found on the school website at www.craigclowan-school.co.uk.

The completed application form should reach the Head’s PA, Jennifer Trueland, no later than 1700 on Friday 08 January 2021.  This should be emailed to headspa@craigclowan-school.co.uk.

About Craigclowan School & Nursery

Craigclowan provides a warm and nurturing environment for boys and girls aged 3 – 13 to learn and grow. Set in stunning grounds with magnificent views over Perthshire, the school has a distinguished history, a reputation for the highest standards and expectations and a passion for childhood.

Craigclowan delivers a modern education within a framework of traditional values. With a dedicated, caring and supportive ethos, the staff are very close to the children, and the families, in their care and treat them as individuals in all they do. Every child is encouraged to achieve their all-round potential, in the classroom, on the sports fields, on the stage and in the music and art departments.

The school aims to make the most of the world outside the classroom through a wide range of outdoor activities that build confidence and resilience, encourage creativity and problem solving and ensure rosy cheeks and muddy boots. Wellie boots and waterproofs are a must! When it comes to moving on to senior school, pupils go on to attend a wide variety of top UK schools, both north and south of the border, many with scholarships under their belts. The values that are instilled in children during their journey through Craigclowan, are the qualities that allow them to thrive after they leave.

School is a hive of activity from 0730 until 1800, with a family-friendly wraparound care programme before and after lessons. The school minibus fleet collects children from across the region and Craigclowan’s ever-popular holiday activity camps operate throughout the year. Grant funding is available for nursery pupils setting out on their Craigclowan adventure.
