We’re pleased to say that the Council has recently been awarded a ‘Good’ Ofsted rating for its Children’s Services. While we’re proud of this achievement, there’s still work to be done. So we’re undertaking a transformation programme across the Children’s Directorate. Your work will contribute significantly to the programme’s success and to the learning experience for children across Central Bedfordshire.

Responsible for the delivery of the School Improvement Service, you’ll introduce innovative, creative initiatives that lead to better standards. You’ll see that we make the most of resources through a school support strategy, take charge of a £23m budget and lead income generation activities. At the same time, you’ll act as the Council’s resident expert, advising on interventions in schools that are causing concern. Using data and intelligence about school performance, you’ll challenge low education results and establish a culture of continuous improvement.

A registered teacher with a school professional qualification, you’ll have experience in a similar role gained at a senior level in a school or local authority. With this background, you’ll be used to leading school improvement, strategic planning and performance delivery alongside school leadership staff, external organisations and partners. You’ll draw on strong communication skills, as well as an understanding of relevant legal, financial and operational issues. Political acumen will be essential too, and should come with knowledge of Ofsted regulatory requirements.
