Head of School

Fay School invites applications and nominations for the position of Head of School.

Founded in 1866, Fay School serves 475 students in Kindergarten through to grade nine on a 66-acre campus in Southborough, Massachusetts, 25 miles west of Boston.

Fay School was the first junior boarding school in the United States, and today 150 of Fay School’s students are boarders in grades 7-9 from more than 20 countries and from across the United States. Fay School’s core values of Academic Excellence, Honorable Conduct, Dedicated Service, Earnest Effort, and Wellness of Mind, Body, and Spirit, are the foundation of its broad and challenging program empowering students to discover their talents, develop their intellectual abilities, establish essential academic skills and knowledge, and define their moral character.

The Board of Trustees now seeks an inspirational leader to succeed Rob Gustavson in June 2024 after 16 years of dedicated service to the School. His successor will join a thriving community that looks to its future with confidence, optimism, and a continued commitment to providing the best possible program for elementary and middle school students. This is an exceptional opportunity to shape the future of an outstanding school and to further strengthen Fay School’s position as a leader in junior boarding education.

The successful candidate will be an outstanding educator with the vision and strategic skills to lead Fay School into an exciting new chapter. A track record of success in high performing educational institutions is essential, as are outstanding communication and relationship-building skills and an authentic resonance with Fay School’s mission to provide an education that establishes the foundation for a meaningful life.
