Job overview

The Faculty is seeking to recruit a Head of School with skills and experience in leading teams, managing Initial Teacher Education (ITE) provision, and leading aspects of ITE Ofsted inspections. The post holder leads the Initial Teacher Education (ITE) Inspection for the University and is the Provider’s Representative for Ofsted. The post holder has strategic and managerial leadership of the Faculty's education partnership activity in schools and other educational settings.

The post holder is the Head of School of Teacher Education. Heads of School offer leadership and management to a team of academic and professional services staff to deliver a high quality student experience. They develop and oversee delivery of the School's portfolio, ensure it performs highly against all relevant quality review and inspection standards and remains a financially sustainable area of our activity. The School has ITE degrees at undergraduate and postgraduate level and works with a range of education partners. They also support the Directors of Research Institutes in the development of excellent research.

The post holder will be responsible to and support the Executive Dean in providing academic and managerial leadership and vision to the Faculty, liaising as appropriate with external agencies and internal departments to maintain standards of provision, enhance quality and secure income streams.

By providing proactive leadership, excellent communication and helpful well-timed interventions and support, the post-holder is an innovative leader and role model. The post holder will require a track record of experience successfully leading ITE Ofsted provision. The post holder will have the ability to motivate and inspire teams to engage with change and excellent organisational skills, which enable actions to be followed through to completion. Good skills of data analysis, attention to detail and the ability to communicate are also key.

Heads of School are key members of the Faculty Executive Group and are expected to contribute more widely to the strategic development of the Faculty and University taking on specific leadership roles and tasks as required.

This post-holder will be based in Bedford, however there will be travel to Luton and other sites for committees and other meetings.
