Job overview

We are looking for a Head of School who will lead and manage Gleadless Primary, making decisions on day to day organisation, whilst working closely with the Executive Head to develop and deliver the strategic vision to make the schools and federation outstanding. You will also work closely with the Head of School at Arbourthorne Community Primary School as part of the Executive Leadership team for the federation.

Gleadless is a two-form school with 452 pupils on roll. Staff are supportive, hard-working and ambitious for the school’s future. The school was recently inspected and judged to be ‘Good’ in all areas having improved from a ‘requires improvement’ judgement.

Working closely with the Executive Head, you will ensure the federation’s values and ethos are clearly articulated, understood and acted upon, sharing best practice across both schools and designing and implementing new systems to guarantee the best outcomes for all our children. We are striving to be an outstanding school and want a Head of School to bring their own unique thinking and professional experience to the school, sharing our future ambition and working with the team to achieve this standard.

Our curriculum is innovative and creative, with maths teaching and learning a particular strength. The school has a new build and remodel with all children being taught on one site from April 2017.

We are looking for a hard-working and innovative Head of School with the creativity and ambition to really make an impact. You will support colleagues to establish a learning environment that helps pupils learn effectively, whilst ensuring that parents are well informed about the curriculum, targets, pupils’ progress and attainment. You will maintain a high profile across the school and play a key role within the Federation, acting as a role model for other staff and working openly and collaboratively with colleagues within the senior leadership team.

In return we can offer you:

  • a professional, positive and committed team of staff and governors
  • a supportive community which wants the best for its children
  • regular, high-quality professional development opportunities as you move towards headship
  • the chance to shape the lives of enthusiastic learners who deserve only the best!

Our federation is a super place to work. If the candidate we are looking for sounds like you, please get in touch.

Visits to the school will be arranged at a mutually convenient time and warmly welcomed. You will be given the opportunity to meet Vanessa Langley (Executive Headteacher) and Kate Ellison (Head of School at Arbourthorne Community Primary). Please phone Catherine Udall at Gleadless on 0114 2399705 to arrange a visit.

Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and safety of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. An enhanced DBS check is required for this post, along with a disqualification by association declaration. Please take the time to read our safeguarding policy, which is available on the school’s website.

Completed applications forms, and any queries about the recruitment process, should be addressed to Scott Glover at scott@gloverrecruitment.co.uk or by phoning 0776677 3682.

Please use the downloadable Word version of the application form, which is attached.
