HEAD OF SCIENCE

TLR 1b (£10,825)

Required from September 2022

Cromwell Community College, part of the Active Learning Trust, is a good school which aspires to be an outstanding school.  We look to our science faculty to be a driving force towards this aspiration. We are looking to appoint an inspirational science teacher to lead our successful science faculty at Cromwell Community College.

We are a successful, oversubscribed school with a rising roll and in 2020-21 became the first all through school in Cambridgeshire welcoming our first EYFS class on their 4-18 journey.  The science faculty is large and offers successful courses at GCSE, A-level and BTEC. GCSE Combined Science outcomes are often among the best in the college and Separate Science uptake continues to rise. In 2021-22, we opened an additional two new classrooms to ensure each member of staff had their own space, while we have also recently upgraded all audio-visual equipment in the rooms to a brand new suite of Promethean boards.

We are looking for an innovative and inspiring leader to continue the development of the department.  The successful candidate will have the support of an experienced and dedicated team of teachers and a well-equipped and resourced faculty. This is an excellent time to join the faculty to support the college’s drive to become outstanding.

If you are enthusiastic, ambitious and passionate about science and recognise its importance for the development of all pupils, and will provide excellent results in our already successful faculty, we would like to hear from you.

Cromwell Community College offers the chance to join a strong and experienced team and for you to develop your skills and enhance your career development through a wealth of CPD opportunities.

In line with our commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our students, appointment will be subject to DBS check and satisfactory references.

Applicants are thanked for their interest in Cromwell Community College.  Please note that only candidates shortlisted for interview will be contacted at which point references will be requested. We would appreciate you informing your references of a need for a swift return upon request. We are unable to accept CVs and reserve the right to close the advertisement early so would recommend prompt application.

Vision and values

Cromwell Community College has the following core values: care, whereby pupils are encouraged to care not just for themselves but also those around them; respect, whereby tolerance of all cultures and belief systems is considered paramount; and community, whereby students are urged to take pride in their surroundings and their school.

The secondary school works hard to provide for students with special educational needs, of whom there are an above-average number.

Ofsted report

Pupils enjoy a wide choice of subjects suited to their abilities and interests. The most able pupils are steered towards three sciences, humanities and foreign languages to enable more of them to gain the English Baccalaureate (EBacc) qualification. A small proportion of less-able pupils follow a curriculum matched to their needs and abilities in order to develop their literacy and numeracy, promote their social skills and study qualifications suited to the workplace.”
