Fulham Prep School are seeking a highly motivated, passionate, and inspiring Head of Science to join the school in September 2025. The role will be based at the Prep site where we are very privileged to have two fully equipped and resourced Science labs alongside a STEM room (which is due for completion in August).
All children from Year 3 to Year 8 are taught in the science labs. The Head of Science will oversee the curriculum, working closely with colleagues in the Pre-Prep. The candidate will be responsible for line managing the school lab technician and the 2 other teachers who work in the department, as well as ensuring the labs remain well stocked with equipment and resources.
At Fulham, our pupils love their science lessons and regularly cite the experiments as a highlight of their learning in pupil surveys. We are looking for a Head of Science to continue to foster that love of learning and investigation.
About the School:
Fulham Prep is an independent, co-educational school for children from Nursery up to Year 8. Co-education and celebrating diverse abilities across academic, creative and sporting pursuits are at the heart of all we do.
Our campuses are located in the heart of Fulham and well connected to public transport routes.
Our curriculum encourages the development of creative, problem-solving individuals with tenacity, kindness and secure self-worth; Fulham has always set out to bring out the best in every pupil and we are committed to continuing this nurturing culture.
We have high expectations at Fulham and this, in turn, encourages our pupils to be involved and inquisitive and to show ambition both in and out of the classroom; this type of confidence, social awareness and open approach to life-long learning is needed to succeed not just in their next academic steps, but in a fast-changing and increasingly challenging world.
The same ambition holds true for our staff team. Being a part of the Inspired network of 100+ schools means that there are always colleagues and connections on hand for advice, inspiration and collaboration.
Fulham School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. Applicants must be willing to undergo a number of safeguarding checks including an enhanced DBS check, reference checks from previous employers and, where applicable, Barred List and Prohibition checks.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Periodically reviewing schemes of work and teaching methods with SLT and taking part in classroom observations.
- Attending courses and INSET to develop professional skills as agreed.

- Planning, resourcing and delivering outstanding lessons
- Assessing, recording and reporting on the development and attainment of pupils
- Ensuring all pupils are challenged and extended – teaching to the top for all – while working with others on the appropriate support for those who need it
- Planning and preparing lessons and schemes of work in accordance with departmental and school policy.
- Teaching pupils and sets as assigned in the timetable, arriving punctually and maintaining good order and discipline among pupils, and registering pupils in accordance with School policies.
- Setting and marking work as required; recording and assessing progress; producing subject reports and references; setting and marking internal examinations.
- Promoting the progress of all pupils, differentiating for ability as required.
- Preparing all pupils appropriately for their age and stage of development, including preparation for external assessment at the relevant age ranges.
- Providing extra support after lessons if deemed appropriate by the senior leadership team.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

About Fulham School
Welcome to Fulham School
We are delighted to offer you a warm welcome to Fulham School. We are personally very proud of each and every part this school and the all-round, inclusive and forward-thinking education you will find here.
School life at each stage is packed with a diverse range of activities so pupils can find out what they’re passionate about and each day is tailored to bring out the best in them. This is about putting pupils in the driving seat; as curious individuals with the power and potential to develop and learn from their environment and the relationships they build with others in Nursery; raising awareness of (and confidence in) core skills in the Prep so that pupils have not just the resilience, but also the ambition, to seek out challenge and opportunity as they take more control of their future options. We provide life skills, the ability to make connections between and beyond subjects and the opportunity to work together to achieve more than any individual can alone, all in a modern and future-looking learning environment; these are the things that make us distinctive. Moreover, we are ideally situated for pupils to take advantage of the museums, galleries, theatres and other resources that London has to offer. All of this is enhanced by the educational opportunities available through the Inspired network and its meaningful connections for both pupils and teachers.
We offer a broad education where diverse abilities are recognised, celebrated and given fullest expression; this has been at the core of our ethos since the School was founded. Our curriculum encourages the development of creative, problem-solving individuals with tenacity, kindness and secure self-worth; Fulham has always set out to bring out the best in every pupil and we are committed to continuing this unusually nurturing culture.
Being a part of the Inspired network means that there are always colleagues and connections on hand for advice, inspiration and collaboration.
