(£39,408 - £42,050 per annum to include PSP)

A minimum of 3 hours remission per week to manage the Science Department plus an additional 2 hours per week for the strategic development of science provision at Portsmouth College

The Position

We are seeking an inspirational, enthusiastic and innovative teacher of A level Chemistry to lead on the further development of our Science department. The ability to teach biology would also be an advantage but not essential. The successful candidate should show the ability to engage with students and staff to produce a successful and dynamic Science area. An enthusiasm for effectively and imaginatively teaching and managing is an essential priority for this post.

As Head of Science, the successful candidate will be responsible for the day to day oversight of teaching, learning, assessment and progress monitoring of all students in a curriculum area. They must be highly effective in managing the teaching staff and technicians in the curriculum area in order to meet or exceed College targets. Where relevant they need to make effective use of additional support and technicians to help achieve good or better student progress and outcomes. They will work closely with VP Curriculum & Quality to seek to continually improve and they must aspire to achieving outstanding results in the subjects in their area.

In addition, the Head of Science position has a focus on leading the strategic thinking and planning for this key area. The post would require the successful candidate to formulate, develop and execute a strategic plan with KPIs focusing on further raising the profile of Science provision at Portsmouth College. This includes increasing recruitment and retention on science courses through partnership work with schools in the city, successful outcomes for all students including the development of exit routes into employment and Higher Education through liaison with external partners including HEIs and employers, driving forward the local sixth form partnership supporting single teacher science subjects and representing the College on STEM related city-wide groups.
