Job overview

We are seeking to appoint an inspirational, well-qualified and ambitious Head of Science with a passion for developing learning and achievement. The successful and highly motivated leader will lead a team of nine teachers in the delivery of outstanding teaching and learning.

Wolstanton High School is an improving school, with a clear ambition for its future: it will be second to none. In order to accelerate progress towards this ambition within the area of science, we seek an exceptional candidate to join our family and to lead this curriculum area with drive and determination.

Our science department is housed in suited accommodation with well-equipped laboratories and a team of highly supportive technicians. Our curriculum comprises core and additional science as well as separate sciences, to GCSE level.

Wolstanton High School is an academy within the Shaw Education Trust. The Trust is led by an Executive Leadership Team steeped in school leadership and improvement experience: www.shaw-education.org.uk. They are committed to the continued professional development of all members of staff and the sustained successful performance of all its academies. Career opportunities within the Trust are significant. All leaders are supported to excel. There is a bespoke leadership pathway programme which enables the next stage of professional growth within the group. The Trust also provides additional leadership through a specialist Director of Science, to support all schools to excel, think innovatively and secure high quality outcomes for pupils in the curriculum area.

We are going create something exceptional for the young people in our community and if this ambition appeals to you, we would be delighted to receive your application.

The school is committed to the safeguarding and wellbeing of students and all staff must share this commitment. The successful candidate will be required to undergo appropriate screening including Enhanced DBS and Section 128 checks.

For an informal discussion and further information about the post, please call our Executive Principal, Julie Yarwood. Visits to the school are welcome but not essential.

Should you wish to apply please return your completed application to Ally Harvey, Director of Business and Finance at: bursar@wolstanton.shaw-education.org.uk.

Closing date: Noon, Friday 28 April 2017.
Interview date: Tuesday 9 May 2017.

I am extremely proud and privileged to be the Principal of The Orme Academy and the community that it serves. My sole ethos for the school community is ‘Empowering Learners for Life’. Whilst I am committed to ensuring that every student makes excellent progress, this concept stretches well beyond academic performance. I firmly believe that every aspect of school should equip learners to be successful in all areas of their lives, both now and for their future.  Indeed, every single decision or action taken improves the life chances of all our learners. This is underpinned by ensuring the Academy is a safe, nurturing and happy environment: put simply, The Orme Academy is a great place to learn and a great place to work.

I have relentlessly high expectations of those associated with the Academy; I expect everyone to be their very best at all times. We have extremely high standards and aspirations for our staff and students which are reflected throughout the Academy and I expect all who are associated with the Academy to reflect these too. We are committed to working in partnership with parents and members of our local community to ensure the very best support and opportunities for our students so that they can fulfil their potential.

The Orme Academy is an increasingly popular first choice for education across the area: for entry in Year 7 we are oversubscribed meaning that the number of applications exceeds the pupil admission number. This reflects the significant improvements that are constantly being made within the Academy and the very strong reputation we are developing within the local and wider area. If you would like to come and see what The Orme Academy has to offer, please do not hesitate to contact us.
