Job overview

Celebrating 85 years in Education & Aspiring to Excellence

We wish to appoint a full time Head of Science to make this outstanding department even better. Applications are welcome from individuals of all religions who will support the catholic ethos of our school. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and inspire a team of dedicated specialists who ensure that students enjoy learning and achieve excellent outcomes. A significant number of students progress to A Level Biology, Chemistry and Physics and the successful candidate will be expected to teach to each key stage. We have no specific preference for subject specialism within Science.

We achieve consistently outstanding results – in June 2015 47% A*-A in Biology, 75% A*-A in Chemistry and 53% A*-A in Physics, and 88% A*-C in Core and 89% A*-C in Additional Science GCSE. There are currently nine A Level Science classes with many students aspiring to pursue Science and Engineering courses in Higher Education. We are very keen to appoint a candidate who would seek to develop a strong extra-curricular programme of STEM activities and opportunities. The school is a member of the ‘Partners in Excellence’ club.

The Science Team consists of nine full time teachers and three technicians. The department currently has eight classrooms, all equipped with interactive white boards. This is an exciting time as Science will take over classrooms in a brand new building opening in Summer 2016.

Please contact Janet Rigby, Office Manager on jrigby3@suttonmail.org to arrange a visit or an informal discussion with the Headteacher, Mr Philip McCullagh.

Salary payable is on the Teachers Main Scale/Upper Pay Spine, including Outer London Weighting.

Application forms and job details are available by downloading via the website on www.johnfisherschool.org where further information on the school and department may be found. Completed application forms should be sent with a covering letter to Mrs Rigby by the closing date: noon on Wednesday, 24th February 2016. Interviews will be held week commencing 29th February 2016.

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and to equality of opportunity. An enhanced CRB will be required.
