Head of Science with Chemistry specialism (Full time)

To start September 2020

We are looking for a well-qualified and enthusiastic leader with a passion for their subject.  This full-time post offers the opportunity to oversee the Science department at Wrekin, which is a large and important department at the school, and which produces excellent results in public examinations.  Real consideration will be given to applicants with the aptitude to lead the Science department who have not yet had the opportunity to do lead an individual science department before.  

The successful candidate will be an inspirational subject teacher, with initiative, good communication skills, and a willingness to contribute as part of an outstanding Science team.  They will continue to drive the department forwards, ensuring excellent academic results, whilst continuing to raise the profile of the subject both within and outside of the school.  The new Head of Science will line-manage the three Heads of individual Science subjects, in a department comprising ten teaching and three non-teaching (technical support) staff.  The role will require oversight of the Combined Science GCSE course and teaching of Chemistry to the full age and ability range at Wrekin College.  The ability to teach another science subject to KeyStage 3 or GCSE would be advantageous but is not essential.

Wrekin College is a busy school set within its own attractive and spacious grounds.  A willingness to be fully involved in the school’s co-curricular programme and the whole life of the school is important. This will include Saturday morning activities and an evening boarding duty.  Accommodation may be available for the successful candidate.
