Kingsmead is a school with a vision and a mission: we’re here to help some of the most vulnerable young people in Derby gain the life skills to get ahead. Offering integrated provision, including our Special School and Pupil Referral Unit, we work with between 160 and 220 secondary students with a range of social, emotional and mental health needs. You will take our secondary provision to the next level.

Driving the development of the Senior Leadership Team, you will place excellence at the heart of everything we do and champion the highest standards of teaching and learning. Taking ownership of our curriculum, you will realise the full potential of every member of the team – and of course every pupil, as you create policies to address underachievement and go the extra mile to narrow the gap for our most disadvantaged learners. At the same time, you will take a holistic view of education and drive up standards of attendance and behaviour, whilst giving our students the confidence and social skills to hold their own in any situation.

An ambitious, resilient and inspiring teacher and school leader, you will be well versed in ESMH strategies and capable of finding solutions for pupils with severe behavioural difficulties. A strong interest in virtual learning solutions and other cutting-edge techniques would be very useful, as would awareness of EAL/ESOL best practice, but it’s your ability to engage hard-to-reach students and secure their loyalty that will matter most.
