Job overview

Hastings School Madrid

1300 students ⎮ 50 nationalities ⎮ 6 sites ⎮ 1 school

Founded in 1971 and opened as a family-oriented British School, it was one of the first of its kind in Madrid. Today, it is based on six sites, in central Madrid and has over 1300 pupils.

Hastings School follows the National Curriculum for England. At Primary we follow a creative, topic curriculum based on stories from all over the world. At Secondary level pupils prepare for IGCSE, A Level and IBDP examinations. Pupils go to a range of global universities but the UK and Spain are the most popular destinations.

Hastings School is looking to appoint a Head of Secondary from September 2023. We are seeking a candidate who will provide highly effective leadership of our Secondary School. The Secondary School is split across two sites: LST for students in Years 7-10 and MM8 (our pre-university centre) for students in Years 11-13. The Head of Secondary reports immediately to the school Principal and directly manages the Secondary Deputy Heads and certain other senior members of staff. The Head of Secondary is responsible for ensuring that the curriculum, teaching and assessment practices inspire high levels of engagement, achievement and progress in order that all students from Year 7 – Year 13 achieve their full potential.

The successful applicant will be an inspirational leader who will be an integral member of the school’s Senior Leadership Team, fully involved in the SLT decision-making process. The challenging demands of leading high-quality education in an international school such as ours requires flexibility, adaptability and enthusiasm from the post holder.

We can offer:

• Reputation for academic excellence

• Central location in the wonderfully diverse city of Madrid (300 blue sky days!)

• Confident, resilient, welcoming students

• Lively, committed staff

• Career development opportunities
