About the Role

The Head of SEN is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the School's Additional Educational Needs or Inclusion Policy to ensure that children with Additional Educational Needs are fully included into the school environment and that all children with AEN achieve their potential.

Main Duties include:

  • Set up systems for screening pupils at "point of entry" identifying, assessing and review provision for AEN children once identified
  • To keep a profile of children with additional educational needs
  • To observe and support children as appropriate on the special educational needs profile
  • To support and advise Key Workers, Teachers, Learning Assistants, etc. as appropriate, in how to include children's needs in the classroom
  • To liaise with other schools e.g. prospective pupils
  • To take the lead in leasing, co-ordinating and managing all external support from other professionals from outside services and external agencies e.g. Educational Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists, etc
  • To arrange, organize and review support for individual children
  • To keep Teachers, Key Workers (Early Years) and Learning Support Teachers, and Learning Assistants up to date with AEN and inclusion issues and to encourage personal development through courses and INSET
  • To meet with parents regularly in order to maintain good relationships and to keep parents informed about their child's progress
  • To keep abreast of changes in legislation/practice from government from the UK as well as within the network of Schools
  • To organize INSET relevant for staff in different parts of the School ensuring
  • To review individual children's IEPs termly as appropriate
  • To write detailed education reports about individual children for other professionals and parents
  • To review profiles via annual and interim review meetings
  • To meet at least termly with the Head of School Sections
  • To develop and share knowledge of resources (equipment, books, materials and knowledge of possible strategies)
  • To develop links with other Schools


The Head of SEN fulfils several important management roles. This person is responsible for the effective organization of the curriculum program and contributes directly to formation of and reflection upon policy initiatives. This includes leading the department through curriculum conversations to enhance the learning experiences and learning spaces for all students.


About You

  • Bachelor Degree or higher
  • Skilled and Qualified Teacher
  • Participate in staff training and attend sector meetings
  • Management Experience
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Skilled in Instructional Planning, consultation, coordination and general teaching competencies
  • Must hold qualifications in additional educational needs e.g. Diploma in SpLD, CCET, MA Inclusion, NASEN Award, etc.

About Wuxi Dipont School of Arts and Science

Opened in September 2018, Wuxi Dipont School of Arts and Science's mission is to educate well-rounded young men and women who will make a positive contribution to society. We support each pupil to reach his or her full potential through the foundation of three systems: academic, co-curricular and pastoral.

With capacity for over 3,000 students, the school is growing rapidly and will have around 2,000 enrolled from September 2021.

The campus consists of:

  • A pre-school for pupils aged 3 to 6 years catering for Chinese and expatriate children and offering a bilingual programme based on EYFS, international and Chinese curricula.
  • A bilingual elementary and junior high school for Chinese students in Grades 1 to 9 who undertake the mandatory Chinese curriculum delivered with a modern pedagogical approach and additional English language instruction.
  • An international school for expatriate students from Grade 1 to Grade 10, offering a British-style curriculum leading to IGCSEs with additional Chinese language instruction
  • A high school for Chinese and expatriate students, providing a wide range of IGCSE and A Level courses. The IB Diploma Programme will be implemented from September 2021.

Our state-of-the-art facilities include a large multi-purpose sports hall, a 50 metre indoor swimming pool, fitness centre, playing fields, 400m running track, well-equipped laboratories, art rooms, drama studios, performing arts auditorium with capacity for 800 people and extensive boarding facilities. A river runs alongside the campus and a boat house has been incorporated into the campus design.

Wuxi Dipont School of Arts and Science is a partnership project between Dipont Education, King’s College School, Wimbledon, and Nanjing Foreign Language School (Nanwai).

King’s College School, Wimbledon is an independent day school for boys aged 7-18 and girls aged 16-18 in Wimbledon, SW London.
