Job overview

This is a rare and exciting opportunity to join a family of schools at a strategically important point in their history. Following a comprehensive review of how the four Merchant Taylors’ Crosby schools operate, the Governors have identified a key strategic priority of the two single sex senior schools working together more collaboratively, integrating their shared ethos and approach, and maximising the advantages of a close relationship with each other, whilst each school retains its own identity. The Head of the Senior Boys’ School will be integral in ensuring the Governors realise this vision; a new Head will also be appointed to lead the Senior Girls’ School opening up a genuine opportunity for enhanced collaboration between the schools.

In addition to leading this change, the incoming Head will be responsible to the Board of Governors for the whole conduct of the Boys’ School’s affairs and for promoting its ethos and development in line with the shared vision and strategy for the Merchant Taylors’ family of schools. The Head will provide the leadership and management which will enable the School to give its pupils “the best education for life”, while promoting the highest possible standards of achievement, care and welfare amongst the School’s pupils and staff.

Candidates must show a strong track record of leadership in a school setting as well as excellent communication and change skills. He/she will work in a collaborative manner and be able to adopt a strategic approach to the future of Merchant Taylors’ Boys’ School, working with the family of schools as a whole.

Merchant Taylors’ has provided an excellent education to boys ever since its foundation in 1620.

This historic school is built upon a fine record of academic attainment underpinned by a broad range of co-curricular activities and a learning environment that values care and respect for others. It is a happy, vibrant place, full of energy and enthusiasm and brimming with aspiring and ambitious people who want to make the most of themselves and help those around them to do the same.

Boys are encouraged to develop their friendship groups, explore new areas of interest and broaden their personal horizons. A passionate, dedicated academic team helps boys to understand the potential they have within themselves how they can unlock that in ways that are bespoke to their own skills and needs.

The opportunities to grow extend way beyond the classroom and boys excel at all manner of enrichment and co-curricular pursuits, including the CCF (Combined Cadet Force), major drama productions, national maths competitions or sports such as rugby, cricket, football or hockey.
