We are seeking a dynamic, ambitious and inspirational individual to lead our large and successful Sixth Form. The successful candidate will be an associate member of the SLT and take full responsibility for this large, highly important and strategic area of the school.

The Sixth Form at Bacon’s is popular and has been a strength for many years, but there is scope for further improvement. We currently have around 160 students on roll in the VI form, studying A levels and vocational courses. A level outcomes were strong in 2018 with 46% of grades being A*-B. There is room for further improvement in both numbers and outcomes and a real opportunity for a visionary leader to make their mark.

This is an exciting time to join Bacon’s College as we rapidly improve. We expect the successful candidate to have significant experience in middle leadership with a demonstrable track record of success and a wide range of skills. You must be committed to achieving outstanding academic outcomes, first-class pastoral care and exceptional opportunities for student leadership and development. This will be an excellent preparation for senior leadership and ultimately headship.

Bacon’s College was established in the Surrey Docks peninsula, South East London in 1991 as a City Technology College and joined the United Learning Trust in 2018. Bacon’s has long been an important part of the fabric of the local community in South East London. We are proud of that history and of the way the College has evolved and adapted to meet the needs of its young people.

Bacon’s is a thriving community that is welcoming of students of all faiths and those of none. Staff and students value the distinctive nature of its Christian ethos to which every member of its community contributes. The school is well disciplined and calm and we pride ourselves on the harmonious relationships that exist in the school.

Today, Bacon’s sits in modern and well-equipped facilities in an area that is rapidly changing and growing. Learning is at the heart of everything we do and we have the highest aspirations for our students, determined that they can achieve and overcome any barriers that may lie in their path. A significant proportion of our students go on to university each year and a culture of aspiration and achievement is evident.

Bacon’s is on a rapid improvement journey and we have seen significant gains in our results over the last two years. There is still more to be done to raise the outcomes for our young people and we hope you will join us in making Bacon’s College a ‘great’ school once again.

United Learning

Bacon’s College joined United Learning as a new academy in Spring 2018. A large, and growing, group of schools aiming to offer a life changing education to children and young people across England.

Our schools work as a team and achieve more by sharing than any single school could. Our subject specialists, our Group-wide intranet, our own curriculum and our online learning portal all help us share knowledge and resources, helping to simplify work processes and manage workloads for an improved work-life balance.

As a Group, we can reward our staff better: with good career opportunities, better pay, benefits, and ultimately, the satisfaction of helping children to succeed. We invest in our staff wellbeing. Our academies each have at least eight INSET days per year (with three of those solely dedicated to planning), and an ongoing group-wide wellbeing programme. It's an ethos we call ‘the best in everyone’.

Bacon’s College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all who work at the school to share this commitment. Successful applicants will be subject to an enhanced disclosure through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
