Job overview

We are looking for a well-qualified and enthusiastic linguist who has experience of teaching at all levels, and who has the vision to lead our Spanish Department into the next phase of its development. Because of the freedom of choice we offer to our girls, some flexibility in teaching languages across the team is essential, and so the ability to teach French as well as Spanish is highly desirable. The ability to teach French to GCSE would be an advantage.

The successful candidate will be an outstanding classroom practitioner experienced in teaching throughout the age range to A-level – and ideally, as indicated above, in French as well as Spanish. S/he will also be able to inspire and motivate students of all aptitudes and abilities. Given the excellent ICT facilities in the department, the ability to use ICT effectively in the classroom would be highly desirable. A willingness to contribute to the broader life of the school, including running international visits and exchanges, is essential.

All teaching staff also have vital roles as tutors within our vertical tutor system: this post will include responsibility for a mixed-age tutor group.

As one of the top state schools in the UK, we believe in challenging and supporting our girls to make the most of every opportunity in their formal studies and beyond.  Stratford Girls’ Grammar School is a selective girls' 11 to 18 school with 816 girls on roll. The school added an extra form of entry in September 2013, and grew to capacity to 800 in 2017.  We are, therefore, still small enough as a secondary school to ensure that all the girls are known to us.  Pupils are drawn from an extremely wide catchment area: there is a priority circle with a 17 mile radius, and we also attract students from further afield - from Solihull to Banbury, Evesham to Kenilworth.

We are proud to be a single-sex girls' school, and always keen to promote girl-power!  We firmly believe that girls thrive in a nurturing all-girls' environment, developing self-esteem and the confidence to take on leadership roles - and research has shown that girls can and do achieve better academically in single-sex schools, too.
