Job overview
Head of St Faith’s, Cambridge
September 2021
Judged UK Prep School of the Year in 2019 by the Times Educational Supplement, St Faith’s is an Independent day school for girls and boys aged 4-13 years with a distinctively future-focused curriculum, outstanding facilities and inspiring teachers.
Located on the south side of Cambridge, less than a mile from the famous city centre, St Faith’s fills an enviable spacious green site on 9 acres with a further 20 acres of sports facilities a few minutes’ walk away. Our buildings and facilities have benefited from an extensive modernisation programme as part of a strategic plan that continues to be delivered. There are currently over 500 children and 130 teaching, peripatetic and support staff at the school.
The Leys and St Faith’s School Foundation is a registered charity which owns two schools in the City of Cambridge.
As a Foundation we are proud of what has been achieved at St Faith’s under the leadership of its current Head who will be handing on a school that is performing strongly, with a well-deserved reputation for academic achievement, a strong pastoral ethos and a staff and senior management team that are both talented and motivated. Despite the current climate, demand for places continues to be very strong and we remain oversubscribed.
St Faith’s is at the forefront of teaching Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) and is the first UK school to introduce Engineering to the curriculum from age 7. Offering over 80 after-school activities each week, we also ensure children have plenty of opportunity to discover new interests.
We are keen to find a successor to the current Head who will bring their own vision to the School and begin another chapter in its life.
This is a rare opportunity to lead one of the largest independent prep schools in the country. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of whole school leadership gained preferably in a preparatory or junior school environment, together with an understanding of the latest developments in the education sector, particularly for the 4-13 age group. You will have the ability to motivate and manage staff and to engage with parents and carers, enhance pupils’ enjoyment, wellbeing, achievement and personal development and thereby continue to follow our Mission Statement.
St Faith’s is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
The closing date for applications is noon on Friday, 9 October, 2020.
Further details of the Foundation, St Faith’s, the role and the application and interview process can be found in the Candidate Information Pack, which is available to download below.

The first stage interviews will take place in Cambridge on 6 and 7 November 2020, or by Zoom if we are unable to hold interviews on site.
Visits to the School will be made available to shortlisted candidates between 16 and 27 November, with final interview date to be confirmed.
St Faith’s is an equal opportunities employer. The School is committed to equality and to valuing diversity as an employer and provider of education.
An enhanced DBS check, workplace references and evidence of eligibility to work in the UK will be required.

The Leys and St Faith’s Foundation is a registered charity which owns two schools in the University City of Cambridge, St Faith's and The Leys.
The Foundation aims to provide an outstanding all-round education with a strong academic core. Excellent pastoral care is seen as both fundamental to pupils’ well-being and as a springboard for future success. Underpinned by Christian values, we aim to cultivate emotional intelligence, leadership skills, tolerance and respect for others’ beliefs and backgrounds as a keen sense of social responsibility and global citizenship. Our broad and innovative education promotes excellence both academically and across the Wider Curriculum.
St Faith’s expresses the Foundation’s mission through its work as an independent day school for boys and girls aged 4 to 13 years. The Leys expresses the Foundation’s mission through its work as an independent boarding and day school for boys and girls aged 11 to 18. The Leys draws its intake from a large number of maintained and independent schools, with approximately one half of its 13+ intake coming from St Faith’s. Approximately one half of St Faith’s pupils transfer to The Leys at age 13 and the remainder move to a wide variety of Senior Schools. Each school is managed and led by its own management team and Committee of Governors. Senior staff from both schools meet regularly to ensure close collaboration and a continuity of educational ethos.
Whilst St Faith’s and The Leys are independent of each other, the two schools work closely together, sharing expertise, facilities and resources wherever possible. The Foundation Trustees are the governing body for the two schools. They set the strategic direction and oversee the performance and outcomes. They determine the ethos, set within a Christian culture. They also oversee a policy that enables the schools to contribute to the wider community and society as a whole.
