The Faculty of Education and Health at the University of Greenwich is seeking high calibre applicants for a new executive level post within the newly created ‘Greenwich Institute of Education’. Head of Teacher Education Department/Director of the Greenwich Institute of Education (ref: 1471).

The faculty is based at the beautiful Avery Hill Campus located in the 86-acre Avery Hill Park in Eltham, south-east London, with part of the Faculty moving to the iconic Greenwich Campus in 2018.

The faculty is ambitious and wishes to continue to provide excellent teaching education, building on our outstanding Ofsted outcome for primary education and our good ratings for secondary, lifelong learning and early years. The Faculty is on an upward trajectory, with strong academic and employment outcomes achieved by our students. Much of the research output of the Faculty was judged as world leading in the recent Research Excellence Framework exercise. We are committed to the highest quality of student experience, fostering resilient and able graduates who will contribute to the world in every field.

The Faculty of Education and Health will launch the University of Greenwich, Institute of Education in September 2017 which will be made up of two departments based around teacher education and the academic study of education. The Institute aims to be a Centre of Excellence for teaching and learning focused on improving outcomes for all students. It will also be a hub for innovation and the creation of knowledge, in a research culture that aims for world class outputs. Our current provision is a unique combination of teacher education in all phases alongside undergraduate and postgraduate study on a wide range of educational courses, where we develop creative and reflective students driven to make an impact on their communities.

This exciting new chapter presents opportunities for the University to further develop its current strengths through a coherent and values driven approach to teacher education, the academic study of education, research, enterprise and CPD.

The Greenwich Institute will comprise two distinct but interrelated departments. The Faculty is seeking two new Heads, one for each department. One of these Heads will also hold the additional role of Director of the institute.
