The Role

Fernhill School is seeking to appoint an innovative, dynamic and highly motivated colleague to join our Technology department from September. You will specialise in Food Technology. The successful candidate will be an excellent practitioner and a strong team player with a keen interest in developing pedagogical practices and a cutting edge curriculum that places Food Technology at the forefront of innovative practice.

The Candidate

Following the departure of the current post holder, we are looking to recruit a dynamic and highly motivated teacher who can build on the excellent work already achieved. The successful candidate will be able to teach Food Technology to GCSE level.  Above all, our next Food Technology teacher will have a love for their subject demonstrated by engaging and dynamic lessons that inspire our students.  Our students are well motivated, keen to learn and characterful. The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate innovative previous experience and very importantly, great commitment and enthusiasm.

The School

We are proud of our reputation as a small, friendly school, built on strong, traditional values, where exceptional pastoral care, the acceptance of others and the celebration of diversity and excellent academic achievement for all underpins our success. We have high aspirations for our students and guide them to be the very best they can be. The staff are positive, highly motivated and talented, and are well led by the senior leadership team. This is a team approach with every member of the team valued for the contribution they make. There is a high quality new staff induction programme, research led continual professional development and a supportive collegiate atmosphere. You would be joining the school at an exciting time as we embed a positive can do culture.

The Technology Department

The Technology Department includes Resistant Materials, Graphics, Textiles, Vehicle Technology and Food Technology. Technology is a popular subject both at Key Stage 3 and GCSE, with demand exceeding capacity. The department is well resourced with two workshops (one housing a laser cutter and a 3D printer), one textiles room, a garage and a designated Food room.  A full time technician ably assists in the preparation for Food Technology lessons and supports students with SEND.

About Bohunt Farnborough

We are proud of our reputation as a small, friendly school, built on strong, traditional values, where exceptional pastoral care, the acceptance of others and the celebration of diversity and excellent academic achievement for all are the cornerstones of our success. We have a committed, loyal and talented team of leaders, teachers and support staff. Bohunt Farnborough is a vibrant school that supports the development of the whole child and celebrates success in the widest sense.

Our ethos is simply;

‘Be the best you can be’

The key principles that underpin our ethos are the values of Confidence, Independence, Respect, Aspiration, Honesty, Community, Equality and resilience.

  • Confidence - to think positively and to try things, even when learning is hard
  • Independence - to develop organisation, time management and thinking skills so that  we can be self-sufficient, overcoming challenges ourselves
  • Respect - all members speak politely to each other and value everyone
  • Aspiration - to be the very best you can be, rewarding effort and hard work
  • Honesty - to be trustworthy and know right from wrong
  • Community - a sense of belonging
  • Equality - ensuring that every individual has an equal opportunity to make the most of  their lives and talents
  • Resilience - not giving up, sticking with something to overcome hurdles

We are a fully comprehensive school with students from all backgrounds and abilities. Key to the continued improvement of the school is in ensuring the most able are supported and challenged, and we have a significant number of students who are talented and gifted.

In January 2024 we embarked on the next exciting phase for our school by converting to an academy, and have joined the high-achieving Bohunt Education Trust (BET) family of schools. This move ensures that we are part of a community that provides excellent education, shares best practice and provides experiences and exceptional opportunities for all of our students. We acknowledge that we are on a journey of improvement, which is well underway and are looking for dedicated teachers who wish to play a part in the improvement of the whole school.  This is a team approach and it is often commented upon how warm and welcoming staff are, and how well supported they feel. We are committed to becoming a great school and our motto of ‘be the best you can be’ applies equally to staff and students.

Bohunt Farnborough is a mainstream, non-selective, community state secondary for girls and boys aged 11-16. The school is located in Farnborough, Hampshire and has good transport links via the M3 and A331.
