Rygaards School is a successful, popular, and dynamic institution that encompasses both a Danish School and an International School. It is one of the largest such school in Denmark, with almost 1000 students from Reception to Year 11 representing over 65 nationalities. Rygaards is a forward thinking-school with a strong legacy, a vibrant school community and a purposeful strategic vision. We are an inclusive and welcoming Catholic school founded in 1909 by the Sisters of the Assumption. The International School offers a curriculum based on the National Curriculum of England leading to the Cambridge IGCSE Programme.

The school is looking for a Head of the International Secondary School who can join the Senior Leadership Team and contribute to Rygaards’ dynamic future development.

Applicants should:

  • Be an experienced, outstanding educator, a lifelong learner and have the ability to shape and lead school strategy and development
  • Preferably have leadership experience in an international context
  • Have a demonstrable track record of implementing strategies that improve learning for all
  • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, in order to deal effectively with the wide range of international families that make up our diverse school community
  • Have the ability to lead and inspire a team of dedicated teachers
  • Preferably be a practising Christian - being a Roman Catholic would be an advantage, but not a necessity.
  • Have English as a mother tongue and a working knowledge of Danish would be a distinct advantage.

The Principal and Board of Governors are keen to find a candidate with strong leadership potential who is passionate about Education and is excited at the prospect of joining a team dedicated to maintaining and developing the strong spiritual, academic, and international characteristics of the school.

The appointment is effective from the 1st of August 2021 and is full-time and permanent.

Terms of employment are in compliance with the regulations of the Danish Ministry of Education. Annual salary is in accordance with Danish pay scales, with a generous pension scheme.

About Rygaards International School

Rygaards School is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational all-through school in Denmark, serving students from the age of 4-16. The all-through school is situated in Hellerup. The school  is separated into two schools under the same roof – a Danish School and an International School. Between them, there are over 1,000 students from across the world, representing 80 different nationalities.  

Rygaards School was founded in 1909 and is the oldest international school in Denmark. The all-through school is situated in large park grounds, with facilities including art rooms, music rooms, gyms and a modern learning resources centre.
