Head of the Preparatory School

King’s is thriving and enjoying a period of growth and development with significant investments in recent years to improve all aspects of the school. The Preparatory School educates boys and girls from Year 4-8 and the pupil roll is currently 221 with an optimum capacity of 225 to 230. This position falls vacant from September 1st 2018 on the retirement of the current Head after 17 years of outstanding service.

King’s is rich in historical tradition, with deep spiritual values running through its veins, and embraces the contemporary world with creativity and vision. King’s combines a genuine, individual care for its pupils within an education which seeks to enable each pupil to achieve their personal and academic potential. King’s is proudly broad-ability in its intake but regularly out-performs more selective schools, both grammar and independent. A strong co-curricular programme develops skills and qualities which prepare our pupils to become rounded, confident individuals for a successful fulfilled life.

King’s is the second oldest school in the country and the oldest choir school. There has been unbroken education since the establishment of a monastery in 604AD, with the name of ‘King’s School’ dating from the Reformation. King’s enjoys a stunning location in the heart of historic Rochester. Alongside the medieval castle and cathedral, and bordering the River Medway, the ambience of the school’s surroundings would be hard to match anywhere in the country.

The Principal, Mr Jeremy Walker, and The Board of Governors are seeking to appoint a Head who will lead the Preparatory School from September 2018 in the next stage of growth and development.

Closing date for applications is Thursday 12th October. Candidates invited to interview will be informed by Friday 20th October. First round interviews will take place in the week commencing Monday 6th November and final round interviews will take place in the week commencing Monday 13th November.
