Job overview

We are looking for a talented and driven specialist to join us as Head of Welsh.

The Bishop of Llandaff is an 11-18 co-educational Church-in-Wales High School. Located in the heart of Llandaff, the school is heavily oversubscribed and students attend from all over the city and in the surrounding authorities. Standards at the school are very high. In 2019, our students achieved oustanding GCSE and A level results in the reformed qualifications, key performance measures and new specifications. In Year 11, 98% of students achieved 5 or more A*-C grades, with 87% including English Language and mathematics. Students performed well across all subjects, resulting in 48% of students achieving 5 or more A*-A grades. Our best 9 score of 449 points is the equivalent to, on average, each child in the year group achieving 9 B grades. In Year 13, students shared similar success with 34% of all grades achieved at A*-A, 85% A*-C and 99% A*-E. However, the school is more than just about examination outcomes. Students take part in a broad range of activities that help them become "well-rounded" and our strong Christian ethos helps shape our students to become positive role models in our society. It genuinely is a happy place to learn and work!

The role has become available as the current post-holder is planning on retiring at the end of the academic year, following more than three decades of outstanding service. Therefore, we are looking for someone who is suitably experienced and talented to help sustain excellence across the department. As a result, the role would suit an existing subject leader who is looking for a fresh challenge in a new context or a talented practitioner of Welsh looking for their first curriculum leadership role.

Please download our application pack for more details. Also, we welcome potential applicants to come and see us in action. We are open to visitors every day!

*Salary equivalent to UPR3 and TLR2

Closing date for applications: 22nd January 2020 at 12 noon.
