Huili Schools form the bilingual arm of Wellington College China and offer a 3 – 18 educational programme which combines the Chinese curriculum with the best of the West. Whilst there will be a strong emphasis on academics, Huili Schools also foster the pastoral and holistic aspects of school life to produce well-balanced, rounded, confident individuals who are ready to go out into a globally connected world. The Head of Pastoral, is the designated safeguarding person and has responsibility for the provision of Pastoral within the school, including line management responsibility for the medical, counselling staff, and House staff.  It is anticipated that the successful candidate will teach a reduced timetable, delivering Wellbeing lessons throughout the school.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


Pastoral Care 

• Acting as the designated safeguarding lead (see below for full list of responsibilities).

• Co-ordinating Wellbeing and taking a small teaching role in the initial year of the school’s operation.

• Overseeing the provision of Pastoral Care within the school.

• Line managing the Pastoral Care team, including the Boarding Master, Counsellors and Boarding Mentors.

• Chairing weekly Boarding meetings.

• Allocating house staff, tutors and overseeing tutor development.

• Managing the quality and delivery of Pastoral Care and safeguarding INSET.

• Line managing the medical boarding and counselling team.

• Keeping up to date with safeguarding legislation and best practice and keeping the SLT informed accordingly. 

• Updating of relevant school policies.

• Managing an agreed budget


Discipline and conduct

• Overseeing standards of personal conduct throughout the school.

• Managing any serious disciplinary cases involving pupils.

• Managing and updating codes of conduct and discipline and their related policies.

• Managing rewards and sanctions.


Other management and liaison

• Being first point of contact with the Parents’ Association.

• Attending Parents’ Association meetings.

• Attending Heads of Department meetings.

• Attending Education Policy Committee and Health and Safety meetings as necessary.

• to be the first point of contact for parents, pupils, teaching and non-teaching staff and external agencies in all matters of child protection.

• to act as a source of support, advice and expertise to staff on matters of safety and safeguarding and when deciding whether to make a referral by liaising with relevant agencies / stakeholders.

• to refer all cases of suspected abuse to the locally responsible authority. 

• to co-ordinate the child protection procedures in the School.

• to maintain an ongoing training programme for all School employees, Board, volunteers and other individuals working at the school, including induction training for all such individuals, and provide annual updates.

• to monitor the keeping, confidentiality and storage of records in relation to child protection which are kept separate from pupil records.  

• to ensure that notification of further record keeping is marked on the pupil records 

• to liaise with the authorities as necessary. 

• to keep parents informed of action to be taken under these procedures in relation to their child. 

• to liaise with the Master to inform him of any concerns or ongoing issues.

• to monitor records of pupils in the School who are regarded as a concern.

• To be pro-active in terms of child protection in light of ongoing records. 

• to liaise with other professionals to ensure that the School contributes to the facilitation of any offer of early help when additional needs of children are identified and contributing to plans to provide additional support to children who are subject to child protection plans. 

• to advise and act on all suspicions, concerns and/or evidence of the need for children to receive additional support, or of children who have suffered or are likely to suffer abuse and/or neglect, which is reported to the Designated Person. 

• where appropriate, to take part in child protection conferences or reviews.

• to inform any school in writing when a child who is subject to a child protection plan moves to another school and to ensure the secure transfer of the child protection file to the pupil’s new school (and that it is sent separately from the main pupil file). 

• keep and maintain records of staff training on child protection and safer recruitment procedures. 

• to notify the Disclosure and Barring Service (or equivalent for non-UK citizens) if the School ceases to use the services of a member of staff (or a board member or volunteer) because they are unsuitable to work with children and:

Wellington College China is excited to show off the newest member of its family — Huili School Nantong, whose vision is to cultivate talent through virtue, kindness and integrity. Huili Nantong is committed to providing a world-class bilingual education to Chinese pupils aged 3 to 18 leading to university entrance overseas, primarily in the UK, the USA or Europe. It instills in them the five characteristics of the Huili Identity: Inspired, Intellectual, Independent, Individual and Inclusive. Huili School Nantong encourages its pupils to become both outstanding Chinese nationals as well as well-rounded, global citizens. We say that our children have roots in China but a global vision. Teaching is in both English and Chinese with about 50% of our staff being local Chinese and 50% native-English speaking expats. All of our Chinese staff also speak English and are role models to the children in the school. The Common Room is strong with both the Chinese and foreign staff teaching and socialising together.

Offering a complete 15-year education system, Huili School Nantong has a total  area of 80,000sqm and is the largest campus in the Wellington College China portfolio. It opened its doors to Early Years 2 - Grade 7 (Ages 3 - 13) in September 2022 and will expand by one grade per year hereafter until full. Having an enrolment capacity of 2000, the school also offers boarding accommodation for approximately 700 pupils, starting from primary school age. Huili School Nantong adopts the same architectural style as Wellington College in England coupled with the latest, state-of-the-art facilities.  Its teaching areas, boarding accommodation, school halls, library, indoor sports hall, swimming pool and outdoor football and rugby pitches are all designed to resemble its premium British counterpart in both style and quality.
