Job overview

Head of Windermere International Summer Schools and Holiday Programmes

The Headmaster, Ian Lavender, invites applications for the post of Head of Windermere International Summer Schools and Holiday Programmes.

The school currently operates four International Summer Schools in July and August each year with students from around the world developing their English skills and enjoying the Lake District.  There are also separate Summer Sailing courses and non-residential clubs for children and young people from the age of 5 to 17 during the Easter and Summer holidays. The Head of the International Summer Schools is responsible for all holiday programmes.

The previous post holders were instrumental in constructing the business plan, revising the educational programme on each of the courses, growing the Schools and securing Accreditation from the British Council in 2014 and re-accreditation during this year’s programmes.

This position is likely to suit someone with a strong desire to take responsibility for a growing part of the business of Windermere Educational Trust.  It is envisaged that the International Summer Schools could generate a quarter of the income of the main School.  It is a separate business within the Educational Trust, but bound by the same educational principles.  Students who attend any one of the International Summer Schools may attend the programme for several years and some may transfer to the main School.  As such, it helps to support the main School and the work of the Admissions department.  The branding, ethos and code of conduct is the same as that throughout Windermere Educational Trust.  This is a commercial role but for someone with an understanding of education, especially in an international context.

The successful candidate could well be a graduate with very strong administrative skills, but also with a commitment to developing and growing this vibrant part of the business.  To apply please download the following:

  • An application form, self-disclosure form and explanatory notes about completing the forms and the recruitment process;
  • The Job Description and Person Specification;
  • The School’s Policy Statements on Child Protection and on the Recruitment of Ex-offenders

and return the correctly completed application form to Mr Ian Lavender, Headmaster, Windermere School, Patterdale Road, Windermere, The Lake District LA23 1NW, or email HR@windermereschool.co.uk.

Windermere School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.
