About Rugby Free Secondary School

Welcome to Rugby Free Secondary School! RFSS opened in 2016 and moved into a brand-new purpose-built facility in 2019.

A new headteacher Samirah Roberts joined the school in 2019 following a difficult Ofsted inspection, however we are extremely proud to say that following our most recent Ofsted inspection in July 2021, RFSS is now officially a ‘Good’ school - only the third school in the country to make this transition from inadequate across all areas! Whilst we are proud of this achievement, particularly during a pandemic! We are continually looking to evolve and develop, and this year opened the doors to our brand-new Sixth Form!

This school is committed to providing success for all its students and providing a workplace that supports its staff to ensure they can work to the best of their ability for our students every day. In recent times, we have worked hard to ensure relationships for learning are at the centre of our school, whilst also redesigning the curriculum and striving for consistently high-quality and teaching and learning.

Our core values of kindness, curiosity, collaboration, respect, resilience, and endeavour underpin everything that we do, and make us what we are. Both staff and students communicate with each other using these values, and these are also shared with our community, who also are integral to our school’s progress.

Pastoral Care RFSS

We believe that excellent pastoral care is vital to ensure students are ready for learning, positive, ambitious, and resilient.

We are looking to appoint an ambitious Middle Leader with a commitment to improving the life chances of students at RFSS. A Head of Year at RFSS is key in ensuring students are given the support and guidance they need to achieve their potential at RFSS.

We are looking for an excellent communicator with high expectations for all, who can develop positive relationships with all stakeholders. You will understand the barriers to learning students can face particularly those of Disadvantaged and SEND students. You will be committed to working alongside students, their families, and other professionals to remove these barriers with the support of an Assistant Head of Key Stage (non-teaching) and a team of dedicated Form Tutors.

If you want to support and lead teachers who give their best everyday then we want to hear from you. We know that the key to helping our students achieve their individual best is also high-quality teaching. As a teacher you will have demonstrable experience of getting the most out of your students and as a middle leader you will have visible passion for supporting school wide initiatives to be excellent.

Please get in touch if you would like to be part of a school community that:

- Places professional development at the heart of its ethos

- Values relationships between all stakeholders

- Prepares students for life, not just for examination results

- Has a long term vision to reach Outstanding

If you feel that you could bring further impetus to our drive to improve the provision for our students and have the necessary energy, enthusiasm, and sense of humour to take us forward in this exciting curriculum area then please get in touch. To arrange a visit to school or for an informal discussion with the Director of Learning, please call Vanessa Sorzano-Ince, LT2 Trust Administrator, on 01788 222060 or email; vsorzano-ince@learningleading.org

Closing date for applications: Monday 23rd May 2022

Interview date: w/c 23rd May 2022

Learning Today, Leading Tomorrow (LT2) is committed to safeguarding children; successful candidates will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check. LT2 is always happy to receive speculative applications from excellent teachers and support staff.

The school will endeavour to make any necessary reasonable adjustments to the job and the working environment to enable access to employment opportunities for disabled job applicants or continued employment for any employee who develops a disabling condition.

This job description is current at the date shown but in consultation with the post holder may be changed by the Headteacher to reflect or anticipate changes in the job commensurate with the grade and job title. We reserve the right to withdraw this vacancy at any time.

Welcome to Rugby Free Secondary School

‘Pupils benefit from a school community that includes pupils from a wide range of different backgrounds and cultures. There is a culture in which pupils see these differences as a positive thing. Uniqueness is valued and celebrated. Pupils feel confident ‘to be themselves’ at Rugby Free Secondary School. (Ofsted ‘Good’: July 2021)’

At Rugby Free Secondary School, we aim to foster kindness and pride, whilst maximising our academic and personal potential. We believe that all of our students should be happy and safe, whilst demonstrating the limitless endeavour and resilience required to succeed by striving for excellence. To achieve these goals, our school ethos is underpinned by the foundations of mutual respect, positive relationships and genuine curiosity. This is encompassed in our educational philosophy of creating more articulate, organised and progressive learners, and the desire to create both independent and collaborative learners who are proud to be educated at Rugby Free Secondary School. Alongside this, we focus on broadening our students’ core subject knowledge and understanding of the wider world. As a consequence, quality-first Teaching and Learning is at the centre of our school’s ethos, and is the key priority for all staff. Our aim is for teachers to deliver high-quality lessons to all year groups, whilst also being supported to develop through pertinent and purposeful internal and external CPD that is bespoke. Learning is integral to everything we do at RFSS. We ensure that all of our students, regardless of gender, ethnicity or ability, receive the best possible learning experiences, to enable them to achieve and maximise their potential. Here at RFSS, we continually support students to develop a love of learning to help them become learners for life, in order to equip them with the knowledge and skills that they will need in the real-world. This is also the case with our teaching staff, who continuously develop and update their own pedagogical practices, through Action Research projects and other bespoke professional development sessions.
