Job overview

HEAD OF YEAR

(Non-teaching)

Local government pay scale for support staff: Point 20 - 25 (£25,991 - £29,577 FTE) £23,427 - £26,659 pro rata, term-time only plus 2 weeks.

We have a great opportunity for a Pastoral Manager to join our inspiring and growing School. Lordswood Boys’ School (LBS) is about to achieve a fourth successive year of outstanding results as we await our first Ofsted Inspection as a Central Academies Trust (CAT) school. We believe we are at least a GOOD school with OUTSTANDING leadership and management.

The successful candidate will oversee the pastoral management of one year group in our school; we are a small and expanding school, with around 400 students in year groups 7-11. If you want to make a difference to our students and support them to achieve their full potential, then this is the role for you.

The successful candidate will be:

  • Experienced in working in any pastoral setting in schools, or experience that could be easily translated and applied into a school setting.
  • Creative and innovative.
  • Have very high standards for their own performance and that of the students.
  • Looking to work with driven and focussed leaders in the fastest and most substantially improved school in the UK.
  • Be a strong student advocate.

Whilst this role is predominantly term time there is a requirement for the successful candidate to work an additional 10 days per year during holiday times, in agreement with the Principal. The daily hours are 08.00 -16.30, though we would expect some flexibility from successful candidates to fit in with the daily requirements of the school.

These are reasons why you might want to join us:

  • Our new school £14million state-of-the-art school is now open.
  • The school is divided into two Colleges. As we expand, we will add up to two more colleges and recruit Pastoral Managers for each.
  • The school is expanding rapidly.
  • We are keen to add a 6th Form from September 2022 and our new school has provision for this.
  • The behaviour of students is a strength of the school.

The role will consist of the full range of pastoral activities with key areas being:

  • Working in a team of five Pastoral Managers under the leadership of a Pastoral Director.
  • Maintaining contact with home where students are not making good enough progress with attitudes to learning.
  • Helping staff the Internal Exclusion Unit; this is used as a temporary sanction for a very small number of our students with the emphasis on re-integration. All staff contribute to the running of this unit, though some days and even some weeks, it is not used.
  • Working with an experienced Leadership Team to ensure optimum care for our most vulnerable students.
  • Devising Intervention plans for the most vulnerable students.
  • Maintaining appropriate data tracking systems to accurately monitor student progress with improving behaviour.
