The Boswells School is looking to appoint a Head of Year to join our successful Student Support team. The role involves taking overall responsibility and leadership of a year group at the school and supporting their progress in every aspect of school life. You will be joining a school with enthusiastic and dedicated leaders at all levels and a real commitment to the professional development of staff. 

The Boswells School is an 11-18, very successful, popular and oversubscribed school in the Springfield area of Chelmsford, Essex. In 2017, 82% of all students achieved a Grade 4+ in English and 75% of students achieved a Grade 4+ in Mathematics. Both of these measures are significantly above the national averages for these subject areas, as was the percentage of students achieving a ‘strong pass’ (Grade 5+). Just under 30% of all GCSE grades awarded were at A*/A and 79% at A*-C grade. At A, Level 55% of all grades awarded were at A*-B, 84% of all grades were at A*-C and 99% of all grades awarded were pass grades.

The school was judged to be ‘Good’ in all areas by OFSTED in February 2017 and this role is crucial to the continued progress of the school towards outstanding. This role is crucial to continuing the strong and effective pastoral support we provide our students to ensure that every child achieves their full potential.

Academic Achievement

We are extremely proud of the achievements of our students. 2019 was another superb year for The Boswells School with our GCSE and A Level results making us one of the highest performing non-selective secondary schools in Essex. In 2019, 55% of our A Level students achieved A* to B grades, 88% of our A Level students achieved A* to C grades, 83% of our GCSE students achieved a Good pass (Grade 4+) in Eniglish and 71% of our GCSE students achieved a Good pass (Grade 4+) in Maths.

The percentage of students who achieved the expected levels of progress in English and Mathematics was significantly above the national average as was the percentage of students who achieved more than expected progress in these areas.
