Job overview
We are a comprehensive inner London secondary school with a diverse intake of students from a wide variety of backgrounds and cultures. We were graded as Good in all aspects during our last Ofsted Inspection (Nov 2017).
We are looking to appoint an experienced Head of Year to support and nurture young people. The role is pivotal within the Pastoral team and management of the school. You will be responsible for parental engagement with your year focus and develop close working relationships with the form tutors and other key members of staff to ensure our students achieve their full potential.
You should have a good working knowledge, understanding and experience of the following;
- Working within a Secondary School environment
- Secondary School Curriculum
- Emotional Intelligence
- SIM’s
- Behaviour Management
- Excellent interpersonal skills, an empathetic nature and be prepared to role model behaviour to those who are disengaged.
- Able to work under pressure and to strict deadlines

About Arts & Media School Islington
Arts & Media School Islington is a co-educational, comprehensive trust foundation school in north Islington, London.
The Victorian school building was originally home to Montem Street School, later becoming known as Tollington Park Secondary School and, more recently, as George Orwell School.
In 2014, Arts & Media School Islington was selected to be one of 12 schools in London to participate in the Music in Secondary Schools Trust (MISST) programme, which aims to develop team-working skills, improve discipline and enrich the learning of students through the creativity of music.
Key stage 3 students at Arts & Media School Islington receive an orchestral string instrument alongside compulsory musical education for three years, all free of charge.

Arts & Media School Islington’s vision of “every child a scholar” is built upon a strong academic GCSE core, enriched by the arts. The school aims to establish challenging academic goals, which its students are expected to aspire towards and surpass.
