Job overview

The Hazeley Academy seeks to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated Head of Year to join our high-performing school. The successful applicant will be passionate about the pastoral and academic progress of young people. We are purposely not attaching a particular subject specialism to this role as we are looking for someone who has the passion to develop the character, confidence and creativity of our students.

In this key role, you will professionally lead, manage, develop, support and be accountable for a year group; enabling your form tutor team to realise the highest possible standards of achievement, progress, personal development and well-being of the students in their care. You will be excited by the challenge of supporting and developing systems which actively raise student achievement and progress, and can demonstrate the ability to build very strong links with home, school and other key workers.

The Hazeley Academy is a high-achieving, newly built, highly equipped modern Academy of over 1500 students aged 11-19 which enjoys an exceptional reputation in the community. The Hazeley Academy is a highly ambitious school which has grown rapidly since it was opened in 2005 and is currently judged by Ofsted as being GOOD and has many outstanding features. We are currently at the top of the league table for Milton Keynes for Key Stage 4. Our five year vision is based strongly on nurturing our students to possess a deep-rooted confidence and self-belief; a level of creativity, resilience and competitiveness that borders on the entrepreneurial and above all a well-rounded character, rooted in care for self, others and their environment. The staff at The Hazeley Academy are talented, hard-working and intensely loyal to our young people. We have a newly-developed induction programme for each NQT who joins us which includes a supportive coaching and training programme. In addition, we provide opportunities for development and furtherance, enabling us to grow our own leaders and managers from within.

At The Hazeley Academy we are certain that pupils work at their best in a recently built (completed 2010), purpose built environment that is secure, caring and orderly and also stimulating and challenging, so that they are well prepared to meet the demands of adult life. We combine emphasis on traditional values such as responsibility, honesty, and respect for learning, with care for the individual. We have established an ethos in which all members of our community are valued and respected.

We have high expectations of all our pupils in every aspect of Academy life and we are one of the highest achieving schools in Milton Keynes. We know that all students have the potential to be discovered and developed and that it is our task as a learning community to help them make full use of their talents and abilities.

We are confident you will find that the Hazeley Academy is a welcoming and friendly school where relationships are exceptional and students and staff alike work happily and well in an orderly, caring and purposeful environment.

THE ACADEMY VALUES

At Hazeley Academy our high expectations of achievement, behavior, respect and care lead to an orderly and purposeful learning environment.

We challenge all members of our learning community to work hard, respect others and their environment and to participate enthusiastically in all that they do.

We want our pupils to have fun in learning and to attain the highest possible standards so that they can face the future with confidence and become active members of society. We have a compelling five year vision which says a great deal about what we stand for. This can be downloaded from our website at  www.thehazeleyacademy.com

SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS

We want all of our students to have access to as much of the curriculum as possible and as a part of the community we aim to cater for all pupils in our community.

A team of specialist teachers and teaching assistants provides in-class and withdrawal support for those pupils who require it and we also work closely with outside agencies. Support is offered according to the level of need. This will range from children who require minor help with literacy, to those with a Statement of Special Educational Needs, to those pupils who are recognised as having a gift or talent.

The Hazeley Academy is a fully inclusive one. One of the ways in which we seek to achieve this is by ensuring that it is physically accessible to all people – students, staff, visitors – with a physical, sensory or other type of disability. We also ensure that the ways in which we communicate and our curriculum take full account of the needs of learners and others.

The Hazeley Academy seeks guidance from recognised experts including our partner schools and especially The Walnuts, whenever appropriate.

GIFTED AND TALENTED

At Hazeley we celebrate success and stretch and challenge our students who have special gifts and talents. We provide a programme of stimulating activities to encourage our students to make further progress, and to help us produce the leaders for the next generation.
