Queensbridge School is looking to recruit a strong Head of Year who will share our determination to transform the life chances of our 900 pupils. At Queensbridge the pastoral team is a dedicated group of colleagues and you will lead on all aspects of pupil behaviour and well-being in support of every child’s achievement within your year group.

This post will work under the guidance of Pastoral Lead for Lower School.

Applicants will need to demonstrate excellent communication and organisational skills along with the ability to multi task. Experience of a similar role would be preferable.

The successful candidate will:

·     Have excellent literacy and numeracy skills

·     A grade C or above in English and Maths is essential

·     Have excellent IT skills including Microsoft Office

·     Be an effective communicator dealing with pupils, families, staff and members of the public

·     Commitment to education and ensuring equal opportunities

·     Be prepared to play a full and active part in the life of the school

·     Previous experience working with children and young people

·     The skills to monitoring and implementing improvement strategies to meet school attendance targets

·     The ability to lead the whole school pastoral offer, initiate and lead interventions and projects that support pupil learning and development beyond the classroom

·     The ability to implement systems and interventions to remove barriers to progress/attainment for pupils with more complex needs

·     You will need empathy, patience and resilience

Queensbridge School is a co-educational, non-denominational secondary school in the Moseley suburb of Birmingham. Originally built in the 1950s, the school now has approximately 700 pupils aged 11-16. It is a specialist college in visual and performing arts. 

Queensbridge School enjoys close working relations with Birmingham Royal Ballet and the Royal Shakespeare Company. The area of Moseley has served as a source for literary inspiration: JRR Tolkien based the tranquil Shire in The Lord of the Rings on Sarehole Mill.

More than half of students attend a residential experience each year, such as sailing and trips abroad. The design technology and PE facilities have recently undergone extensive upgrades.
