Blenheim is a dynamic, exciting and supportive environment in which to work. The school opened in September 1997 with one year group and has grown to its current size of approximately 1310 students on roll including 200 in the Sixth Form. Blenheim is a mixed comprehensive and our reputation in the community is excellent and as a result the school is very popular. The intake comprises students from all areas surrounding the school and ability levels and the cultural blend is varied. Candidates should be entirely committed to the comprehensive ideal of education.  We are therefore looking for an exceptional person, with energy and drive to join us as Head of Year  with an additional responsibility point.

We have achieved excellent examination results which are improving and well above the national average in many cases. In 2016, our A*-C pass rate was over 80% in 8 different GCSE subject areas, up to 28% higher than schools nationally and far above the overall national average for these subjects. 74% of students gained A*-C in Maths, and 74% in English, with a quarter of grades being A*/A. Outcomes in the Sixth Form are also strong, with the majority of students securing first choice. University places including Oxford, Exeter, York and Warwick. 41% of grades achieved at A2 were A*- B in 2016, with 76% at A*-C. We also believe in a holistic education and therefore offer a wide range of enrichment activities for our students to experience.

Our last Ofsted inspection was in January 2017 and we were graded as ‘Good’ in two categories and ‘Requires Improvement’ in three, with an overall judgement of ‘Requires Improvement’. Disadvantaged students do not make as much progress as their non-disadvantaged peers, and this is now a major focus for the school. We are putting in place a comprehensive programme of measures to improve the consistency of teaching across the school, improve the impact of feedback and the effectiveness of differentiation, so that all students, but particularly disadvantaged students, make good progress.

2013 saw us launching our iPad for Learning Scheme under which all students have access to an iPad, the majority having their own personal device. All teaching staff, therefore, need to be willing and committed to using new technologies as a tool for enhancing learning.  We are working towards becoming an Apple Distinguished School and offer training opportunities to all staff and the wider community.

Blenheim is a fantastic place in which to work. We have a strong and experienced Leadership Team, a large and vibrant student body and dynamic staff who are willing to work hard to ensure positive learning experiences for young people. We have achieved numerous accreditations including Investors in People, Investors in Careers, Healthy Schools’ Award, Partnership with Parents award, the Sports and Arts Mark and we are a designated Science Academy.
