Job overview

This opportunity arises for the first time in 14 years with the retirement of the School's current Head at the end of this academic year.

Tower House is a thriving boys’ independent (charitable trust) day school, which educates 180 pupils aged 4 to 13 years. It is a located in leafy East Sheen, South West London and is proudly non-selective, with a proven track-record in successfully enabling each boy reach his full potential, with many boys gaining entry into St Paul’s School, KCS Wimbledon and many other leading independent schools, both boarding and day. Dedicated, highly qualified and loyal staff, together with close involvement of parents in the life of the school, create a real sense of community and a strong affection for the school from current and past pupils and parents.

The School offers a rigorous and broad curriculum which provides a framework for intellectual curiosity and developing skills pertinent to senior school life and the future world of work. Throughout their time at Tower House, boys benefit from the enrichment provided by Richmond Park (which is a few minutes’ walk away) and the world-class facilities of the nearby Wimbledon Qualifying and Community Sports Centre (formerly the Bank of England Sports Club). The School runs many visits to museums, galleries and places of interest on the doorstep in London.

This is a dynamic and exciting time for the School following the completion of a major building project having acquired the next door property. The School has substantially increased its footprint and has created new modern classrooms, a larger playground space and an impressive new hall.

The Governors are seeking to appoint an inspirational leader to succeed Greg Evans as Head in September 2023. During his 14 year tenure, Greg has provided exceptional leadership and service to the School, with the School in rude health both financially and educationally. This is an excellent opportunity, in close partnership with a fully supportive Board, to take Tower House to new successes as it enters the next chapter in its rich history.

The successful candidate will demonstrate alignment with the School’s educational aims and values, have a desire to nurture its strengths, and clearly articulate these in the vibrant and competitive local marketplace in South West London. The new Head will also have first-class communication skills, alongside a proven ability to engage with, inspire and lead the whole school community with a collaborative and empowering approach.

About Tower House School

We're Small

It’s key to our philosophy. For us, small defines all of the values that are sometimes lost in larger establishments. Small gives us the time for individuals and a personal touch. We foster an independent spirit without losing the essentials of cooperation and partnership. Small is simply a kinder and more forward thinking approach. Small is what we are, but it does not limit us.

It's our ideas and achievements that are big.

Tower House is home to just 180 boys. Like a family, we understand that every child is different. Some will be faster out of the blocks than others. But we don’t give up on any child. We commit to every boy. We do this because we have no desire to turn education into a process.

We want to produce individuals. If we are doing that, we've done our job. Want to help us achieve our goals?
