Job overview

The Governors of Packwood Haugh are seeking to appoint the next Head, with a preferable start date of January 2019, though a later date would be considered.

Packwood Haugh is a standalone, co-educational IAPS boarding and day school for children aged 4-13, set on a 66 acre site in the beautiful Shropshire countryside. Packwood was founded in 1892 and has just celebrated its 125th year with approximately 200 pupils, a recently opened nursery and thriving academics.

The school aims to combine excellence in modern education and traditional values, with boarding central to its ethos. Entrance is non-selective, yet children go on to top boarding and day schools locally and nationally, with many scholarships awarded each year. The school’s success lies in its emphasis on tradition, manners and fun, coupled with its ability to get the best out of each and every pupil academically. Extra-curricular activities are endless and the happiness of the children is palpable.

The Governors are seeking a dynamic Head, with innovative ideas to take the school forward into the future and the next phase of its development, whilst keeping a close eye on the traditions that make the school unique. Energy, confidence and experience of co-educational prep schools are essential. The successful candidate will be open minded and unafraid to think outside the box, with a good understanding of teaching and learning and of the country prep school market. The individual will possess the commercial and financial skills needed in the current climate of prep school education and will have strong managerial skills and be able to provide inspirational leadership for this traditional, yet forward thinking family school.
