THE SCHOOL
Perrott Hill was founded in 1946. It is registered as an Educational Trust with a Board of Governors, and currently has 184 pupils on roll, 38 of which are in the Pre-Prep Department. The Head of Perrott Hill is a member of IAPS.
Perrott Hill is a co-educational, day and boarding Preparatory School situated in beautiful rural surroundings four miles from Crewkerne, on the Somerset/Dorset border. The original 19th Century house is Grade II Listed and forms the centre of the school. The whole school site extends to 28 acres and lies within the North Perrott Conservation Area. In the grounds there are woods, gardens, six acres of playing fields, an all-weather playing surface and an outdoor swimming pool.
The school has been carefully developed over the past decade. Recent projects include a new Music School on the edge of the woods, the redevelopment of the Hoskyns Library, the installation of an all-weather pitch, an update and extension of the Sports Hall and most recently a new Science classroom and ‘Tinker Lab’. The boys’ boarding areas have been fully refurbished, with the girls’ to follow shortly.
Class sizes are small, with an average pupil to teacher ratio of less than 14 to 1 and we take great care both to encourage and stretch children based upon their individual needs and strengths. Perrott Hill combines extremely high standards of academic and pastoral care for its children and in the last two years over half of the Year 8 leavers have gained scholarships to public schools. The majority of pupils move on to public schools within the South West. However, in line with the upsurge in boarding at Perrott Hill, an increasing number of children are moving on to the country’s major public schools.
The school was inspected by the ISI in October 2013 and was adjudged to be ‘Excellent’ in every category. Furthermore, the school features annually in the Good Schools Guide and, in 2014, secured a runner-up spot in the ‘Best Prep School’ category at the Tatler Schools Awards.
