Job overview

Fantastic headship opportunity in Cheshire!

One of the country’s largest standalone prep schools is looking for a new Head who can provide inspiring leadership within a particularly friendly family-style school community.  Academic energy and a passion for giving the very best pastoral care are both equally important.

Lady Barn House School is situated in the affluent leafy suburb of Cheadle in Cheshire, just a few miles south-west of Manchester. Independent education is much prized throughout the area and Lady Barn has a very strong all-round reputation for its breadth as well as its significant academic strength.  With 475 pupils aged 3 to 11, it is by far the largest prep school in the area and the children move on to a broad range of local independent senior schools.

Although the school is large, it retains a small school feel and its structure supports very close relationships between children and staff and staff and parents.  It was founded in 1873 with a radical vision of genuine co-education alongside child-focussed teaching and equality of opportunity, and that ethos continues today.  There is huge breadth in the school’s offering, along with first-class teaching and resources, and the attitude remains forward-thinking and adventurously innovative.   At the same time the school delivers exceptional results which delight parents.

Children are everything at Lady Barn and if you are an experienced Head, Deputy or similar, this is your chance to enjoy leading a strong school with a strong position in a solid local market.   Apart from huge personal and professional satisfaction, an excellent reward package is on offer.

Full details and an application form can be downloaded from this page or from the school website, www.ladybarnhouse.org where further information is available.   Our advising consultant, Simon Shneerson, will be happy to answer questions and to offer impartial and confidential advice before you apply.  His telephone number is 07986 100237 or he can be e-mailed at info@simonshneerson.com.

Closing date for applications: 11 am on Tuesday, 19th January

Longlist interviews: online during week commencing 25th January

Shortlist: visit school between 4th – 10th February;  final interview 11th (may be online)

Lady Barn House is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

About Lady Barn House School

Ever since its foundation in 1873 by the educational pioneer W.H. Herford, Lady Barn House School has maintained his vision that the school should enable each pupil to develop a wide range of skills, grow in confidence and find their own voice in the world.

The cornerstone of this vision was that every child should be happy and so a deep care for each pupil as an individual lies at the heart of all that we do.

Lady Barn has built its fine reputation both locally and nationally through unrivalled academic success, innovative and inspiring teaching, superb pastoral care, extensive outdoor and sporting opportunities and a thriving creative curriculum. Above all, our pupils are happy, confident, well-mannered children who love to learn and who are proud of their achievements and of their school.
